Thanks for the reply! Last service was done just recently, and with only 5119 KM on the clock, my car hasn't given me any trouble until now. The fan actually doesn't work at all when I hit the AC button, just complete silence. No weird noises either since nothing's happening. It's like the system is completely dead. Pretty frustrating since summer's coming up. Did your repair involve any electrical components? I'm hoping it's just a fuse or something simple, but given what you paid for yours, I'm a bit worried now.

Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your 1 series. You know what? Your symptoms sound quite different from what I experienced with my 3 series. When my AC failed, the fan was still working, it just wasn't blowing cold air. The fact that your fan isn't responding at all when you press the AC button definitely points more toward an electrical issue. Looking back at my BMW experiences, I should've asked about this first. Before you spend big money like I did on those valves, you should definitely check the basics. Have you looked at the fuses yet? In my car's manual, there's a specific fuse for the AC system. It's a pretty simple check and could save you a lot of cash if that's all it is. Also, when my had similar issues with his BMW (complete AC system shutdown), it turned out to be just a blown relay. That was a much cheaper fix than my valve replacement, only cost him around 50 bucks including labor. Since your car was recently serviced, might be worth calling the workshop to see if the AC was working fine then. Sometimes these things can be related to recent work. Just trying to help you avoid the expensive route I had to take if it's something simpler! Let me know what you find with the fuses, it's definitely the first thing I'd check given your symptoms.

Thank you so much for the detailed response! You know what, you might be onto something with the electrical issues. I actually feel a bit silly now for not checking the fuses first, that makes total sense since nothing's happening when I press the button. Just checked my manual and found the fuse diagram. I'll definitely look into that before taking it to the workshop. The relay suggestion is super helpful too, at least now I have some less expensive possibilities to explore first! You've honestly saved me from panicking about a potential huge repair bill like yours. I'll start with checking these electrical components and will definitely call the workshop about the recent service too, great suggestion. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain all this. If it turns out to be just a blown fuse or relay, I'll owe you a massive thanks for saving me from an unnecessary expensive repair!

Hey there! I've got some experience with car repairs, though I'm not a pro mechanic. Had a similar issue with my 2003 BMW 3 series last summer. AC completely died, just like yours. Took it to my trusted workshop and turned out there were faulty valves in the AC system. The repair set me back about 1000 Euro, not cheap, but necessary to get the cooling working again. Before I can help more specifically, could you share: Does the fan work at all when you turn on the AC? Any unusual noises? Had any AC maintenance done before? The 1 series often shares similar AC components with the 3 series, so I might be able to provide more targeted advice with these details.
