Audi RS3 Sunshade Failure Fix Guide and Cost Analysis

My 2020 Audi RS3 is having issues with the sunblind system. The car sunshade stopped working properly, it wont move at all and stays fixed in one position. Already checked and theres an error code stored. Car is fairly new with only 17715 KM on the clock. Had some poor experiences with mechanics lately, so Im looking for recommendations. Has anyone dealt with a similar problem? Really interested in hearing about repair costs and trusted repair solutions.

A similar issue occurred on my 2017 Audi S3. The interior sunblind motor failed completely, leaving the sun protection screen stuck in a partially closed position. The error code indicated a faulty motor unit in the sunroof assembly. The repair required removing the headliner to access the complete sunroof mechanism. The main issue was a burned-out motor, but the technician also found debris in the sliding tracks that contributed to the failure. The entire motor unit needed replacement, as these components are not serviceable individually. This is considered a serious repair since it involves disassembling a significant portion of the car interior to access the sunroof components. The UV protection system is integrated with several other roof mechanisms, making it a complex repair that requires specific diagnostic equipment. The good news is that once replaced, the new motor should work reliably. The repair typically takes about 4-5 hours due to the extensive disassembly required. Its worth having this fixed at a certified shop since improper reassembly can lead to rattles and wind noise. Based on the symptoms described, it sounds exactly like the same failure point. Would recommend getting it checked soon, as continued attempts to operate a failed motor can cause additional damage to other sunroof components.

Thanks for detailing your experience with the car sunshade repair. My situation was pretty much identical. The sun blind on my RS3 had exactly the same symptoms. Had it repaired recently but cant remember if the inspection revealed any extra problems beyond the motor unit. Would you mind sharing what the final cost was for your repair? Just want to make sure the quote Im getting is reasonable. Also curious if youve had any issues since the fix, wondering if the car blind system has been working smoothly or if youve noticed any other sunroof-related problems?

After getting the car interior inspected and repaired, I can confirm everything worked out perfectly. The sun visor repair cost me 330 Euro for the complete motor unit replacement, including labor. The certified mechanic found no additional issues in the window visor mechanism or tracks, which was a relief. Since the repair, the interior accessory has been working flawlessly. The sun blind moves smoothly, and I have had zero issues with the sunroof system. It operates just like new, with no strange noises or hesitation when opening or closing. The investment was worth it to restore full functionality to the sunshade system. The price seems consistent across these models, so your quote should be in a similar range. The key is making sure all the components are properly realigned during reassembly to prevent any future complications.

Thanks for the feedback. Just wanted to close the loop on my sun blind repair situation. Finally took the car to a certified shop last week. The mechanic found the exact same issue, a failed motor unit in the sunroof assembly. The total repair came to 375 Euro, which included replacing the motor and cleaning the tracks. They completed everything in about 4 hours. The window visor system is now working perfectly, the sun protection screen moves smoothly without any noise or stuttering. They also did a full inspection of the surrounding components while they had the headliner removed. Everything else checked out fine, no additional issues found with the sun blind mechanism or tracks. Really glad I got this fixed properly instead of trying cheaper alternatives. The car blind system works like new now, and there are no rattles or wind noise after reassembly. Money well spent to get the sunshade working properly again.
