Audi Q4 E-tron Key Immobilizer Blocks Engine Start

Need help with potential immobilizer fault on my 2023 Audi Q4 e tron. When trying to start, the engine either fails completely or starts for a split second before dying. Error codes are present but have not been read yet. The car has 82801 km on the clock. Has anyone experienced similar key signal issues with this model? Looking for advice before heading back to the shop, as my last mechanic visit was not great. Any tips on reliable shops that can handle key programming for these electric Audis would be appreciated.

Had a similar anti-theft system issue on my 2020 Audi e-tron GT. The security light kept flashing and the immobilizer would not recognize the key signal. The problem turned out to be more complex than basic key programming. The issue required diagnostic testing which revealed a fault in the immobilizer bypass circuit. The ignition control module was getting incorrect signals from the key transponder. This specific fault is relatively common in newer Audi electric models. The repair involved: Full system diagnostic scan, Recalibration of the immobilizer system, Reprogramming of both key fobs, Replacement of a faulty antenna ring around the ignition switch This was a serious electrical issue that required specialized equipment and expertise. The car electronics in modern EVs are highly integrated, so proper diagnosis is crucial. Before visiting a shop, ensure they have experience with electric Audi models and their security systems. A warning sign to watch for is if the security light stays on after the initial flash sequence. This typically indicates communication problems between the key and the immobilizer system.

Glad to hear someone had a similar experience. The security light flashing you described matches exactly what I saw. Did the repair completely solve your anti-theft system problems? Really helpful info about the immobilizer fault and the key signal issues. My symptoms match what you described about the communication problems. Based on your experience, I will make sure to find a shop that knows their way around electric Audi ignition control systems. Would you mind sharing how much the complete repair cost? Also curious if any related issues came up since the fix was done?

Got good news to share regarding my immobilizer fault situation. After getting it checked by a certified technician, the problem turned out to be much simpler than initially expected. No major electrical repairs were needed like I first thought. The key signal issue was resolved through a basic reprogramming of the key fob. The security light no longer flashes and the car starts perfectly every time. The technician found that the immobilizer system was getting confused due to incorrect programming parameters, which explained the inconsistent starting behavior. The total cost came to just 45 Euro for the programming fix. This was a huge relief compared to what I originally paid for the more extensive repairs that didnt solve the core issue. Since the repair three months ago, the remote start works flawlessly and there have been zero problems with the car security system. Looking back, I probably should have started with the simpler solution of key programming before jumping to conclusions about major electrical faults. Sometimes the most basic fix is the right one when dealing with car immobilizer problems.

Thanks everyone for the help! Just wanted to follow up on how it went. Finally got the car fixed last week and wanted to share my experience. Took it to a specialized shop that focuses on car electronics. The mechanic immediately recognized the immobilizer fault pattern and checked the key signal first. Smart move, as this turned out to be the main issue. The security light problem was fixed through a complete system reset and key reprogramming. Total cost was 190 Euro, which included a full diagnostic scan. They also found and fixed a loose connection in the key detection circuit. Much better experience than my previous repair attempts. The car starts perfectly now, no more security light issues. Definitely worth finding a shop that actually knows about modern car immobilizer systems rather than trying general mechanics who might guess at the problem. Big thanks for pointing me in the right direction with the diagnostic suggestions. Saved me from potentially spending much more on unnecessary repairs.
