Audi A7 Oil Pressure Warning: Common TFSI Issue Alert

Looking for advice with my 2014 Audi A7 3.0 TFSI. The oil pressure warning lamp recently came on while driving, accompanied by a warning light in the speedometer cluster. I suspect oil contamination might be the issue. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Really interested in hearing about specific fixes, especially what mechanics found during diagnostics. The car has been properly maintained with regular oil changes and runs on premium fuel. Would appreciate hearing about repair costs and time needed for fixes from those who dealt with this before.

Having some experience with engine oil problems, I faced a similar situation with my 2012 Audi A6 3.0 TFSI last year. The oil pressure warning also appeared unexpectedly, which turned out to be related to oil sludge buildup due to maintenance intervals being exceeded by the previous owner. The workshop inspection revealed significant contamination in the oil system. They performed a complete oil system flush, replaced the oil pressure sensor, and did a full synthetic oil change with OEM filter. The entire service took about 4 hours and cost me 165 Euro. Your symptoms sound very familiar, but to provide more targeted advice, could you share: Current mileage on your A7, When was the last oil change performed, Are you noticing any unusual engine noise, Does the warning appear constantly or intermittently The combination of warning lights you describe could indicate serious engine damage if not addressed quickly. Low oil pressure can severely impact engine performance and should be checked immediately to prevent further issues. Best practice is to stop driving if the oil pressure warning stays on, as continuing could risk major engine damage. Consider having it towed to a qualified workshop for proper diagnostics.

Latest service was performed at 193000 KM with regular engine oil and filter change. The warning light appeared intermittently at first, but now stays on constantly during driving. I notice a slight knocking sound when accelerating, especially when the engine is cold. The oil pressure drops significantly at idle. A mechanic inspection is scheduled for next week, but Im worried about potential engine damage from continuing to drive. Looking for insights on whether its safe to keep using the car until then, even for short distances. The oil contamination seems likely given the symptoms. Should I consider parking it until the appointment? Cost isnt my main concern right now, preventing serious engine damage is the priority.

Thanks for the additional details. Based on my experience with the same issue on my A6, you should absolutely park the car until the inspection. When I initially noticed similar symptoms, I continued driving briefly and ended up causing more extensive oil contamination and increased repair costs. The constant warning light combined with knocking sounds strongly indicates critical oil pressure problems. My A6 showed identical symptoms before the major repair was needed. The knocking noise during cold starts particularly concerns me, as this suggests insufficient oil pressure is already affecting your engine bearings. The oil pressure drop at idle is especially worrying, this exact symptom in my case indicated severe oil sludge buildup in the pressure regulation system. Continuing to drive risks: Accelerated engine wear from metal-to-metal contact, Complete engine seizure, Expensive internal engine repairs My repair initially started as a simple oil pressure issue but escalated to requiring a full engine oil system cleanup due to continued operation. The contaminated oil had created significant deposits throughout the engine. Have the car towed to your workshop, the cost of towing is minimal compared to potential engine damage. When my oil pressure warning became constant, waiting even a few days of regular driving led to more extensive repairs.

Thanks everyone for the detailed responses. After hearing about the risks, I've decided not to take any chances. Just called my workshop and arranged for a tow truck to pick up the car tomorrow instead of waiting until next week's appointment. Theyaged to squeeze me in for an emergency inspection. The knocking sound and constant oil pressure warning definitely have me concerned about potential engine damage. While dealing with the oil contamination and pressure issues will likely be costly, it's better than risking a complete engine failure. My mechanic agreed that towing is the safest option given the symptoms. Really appreciate all the firsthand experience shared here, especially regarding how quickly these issues can escalate. Will update once I get the diagnostic results and know the full extent of the problem. For now, the car stays parked to prevent any additional damage to the engine.
