Astra Electrical Failure: Nav, Audio & Lights Dead

Hey everyone, having trouble with my 2016 Vauxhall Astra diesel. The navigation and audio systems suddenly stopped working. I noticed the interior light isn't working either, which might be connected to the issue. Has anyone experienced something similar? Would love to hear about your repair solutions and garage experiences with this problem. Thanks in advance

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2014 Vauxhall Insignia diesel last year. The interior lighting and infotainment system just died on me one day. Turned out to be a blown fuse that affected multiple circuits. Took it to my local garage, and they diagnosed and fixed it pretty quickly, cost me €85 including labor and parts. Before you head to a garage, has this happened gradually or suddenly? Did you notice any warning signs before? Are there any other electrical issues? Might help narrow down if it's the same problem I had. If it is, it's a relatively straightforward fix.

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience with the Insignia. Mine's at 201906 KM since my last service in August. It happened completely out of the blue yesterday, no warning signs at all. The only additional thing I've noticed is that the USB ports aren't working either. Everything was fine during my morning commute, but when I started the car after work, boom, nothing worked. Hoping it's just a fuse like in your case! I'll check the fuse box first thing tomorrow morning. Really don't want to spend a fortune at the garage if it's something this simple.

Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about your Astra. Yeah, that sounds exactly like what happened to my Insignia! The USB ports not working is another clear sign, it was the same in my case. When multiple electrical systems go down simultaneously without warning, it's usually fuse-related. For the fuse box check, look specifically for the one labeled "Info Display" or "Radio", it should be a 15A or 20A fuse. In my Insignia, it was in the passenger-side fuse box. Super easy to spot once you get the cover off. Just make sure you've got your owner's manual handy for the fuse layout. If replacing the fuse doesn't do the trick (or if it blows again right away), then you might be looking at a more serious electrical issue like I initially feared with mine. But honestly, given how similar your symptoms are to what I experienced, I'd put money on it being just the fuse. Keep us posted on what you find! And if you need any specific pointers about the fuse locations in your Astra, just give me a shout.

Thanks so much for the detailed advice! Just checked the fuse box using my phone's flashlight (since the interior light's dead), and found the "Info Display" fuse exactly where you said it would be. You were spot on, it was completely blown. Popped in a new 15A fuse, and everything's working perfectly again! Interior lights, radio, nav system, USB ports, the whole lot. Can't believe I was worrying about a potentially expensive garage bill when it was such a simple fix. Definitely owe you a virtual beer for saving me time and money! Really appreciate you taking the time to help out with such specific guidance. Next stop: buying a pack of spare fuses to keep in the glove box. Lesson learned!
