Arteon Door Handle Electronics Fail After Poor Repair

Having trouble with my 2021 Arteon (88000km, gasoline). The door handle electronics seem faulty, keyless entry stopped working completely and there is an error code stored in the system. Had some questionable repairs done at my last mechanic visit, so looking for advice. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their locking system? Concerned about potentially getting overcharged for what might be a simple door switch or wiring fault repair. Any experiences with repair costs and reliable fixes would be helpful.

Had a similar issue on my 2018 VW Passat GT. The door mechanism started acting up in the same way, keyless entry failed and the door electronics showed system faults. Root cause turned out to be corroded wiring connections inside the door handle assembly. Moisture had gotten into the electric door module through a deteriorated seal. This created resistance in the circuit, causing the keyless system to malfunction. The repair involved replacing the complete door handle unit with integrated electronics and door switch components. Not a quick fix since accessing the door mechanism requires careful disassembly of the door panel to avoid damaging other parts. This is generally considered a serious repair since faulty door electronics can lead to security issues and potential lockouts. The fault codes often point to the door handle assembly, but proper diagnosis is crucial since similar symptoms can come from the central locking control module. Worth checking the warranty coverage first. These door mechanism failures are relatively common on newer VW models with keyless systems. Make sure to get the repair done at a shop familiar with VW door electronics, as incorrect installation can cause persistent issues.

Thanks for sharing those details. Really similar to what happened with my Arteon, same sensor issue with the door handle electronics failing. Got it fixed last month and keyless entry works perfectly now. Can you remember roughly what you paid for the repair? My invoice was pretty steep but wondering if I got overcharged. Also has everything been working properly since the fix? Sometimes these door mechanism problems come back if not repaired correctly, especially with the locking system.

Good news about your Arteon repair. In my case with the Passat GT, the final repair cost was actually quite reasonable at 95€. The issue turned out to be much simpler than initially suspected, just a faulty cable connection in the door handle assembly that needed proper reconnection. Since having the electric door components fixed, the locking system has worked flawlessly. No recurring issues with the door switch or keyless entry for over 8 months now. The key was finding a mechanic who really understood the door electronics and didn't just replace parts unnecessarily. Your concern about getting overcharged is valid, sometimes shops assume they need to replace the entire door handle unit when often its just a connection problem. If you paid significantly more, they might have replaced more components than necessary. The car door mechanisms in these newer models are quite reliable once properly repaired. As long as the root cause was addressed and not just the symptoms, you shouldnt experience any further problems with the locking system.

Thanks everyone for the helpful feedback. Just wanted to close the loop on my Arteon door handle situation. Took it to a different mechanic who specializes in VW electronics. They found a wiring fault between the door handle and main control unit. The repair came to 280€, more than I wanted to spend but less than the first quote I got for 450€. The keyless entry and locking system work perfectly now. Mechanic showed me the corroded wiring they replaced and explained how moisture had damaged the door switch connections. Took about 3 hours total to fix. Really glad I asked here first and got some perspective on these electric door issues. Helped me avoid getting overcharged and find someone who actually knew how to diagnose the problem properly.
