Amarok Cruise Control Dead After Recent Mechanic Visit

Anyone else having cruise control issues? My cruise control completely stopped working on my 2019 Amarok (gasoline, 19292km). The dashboard light comes on but nothing happens. Checked error memory and found a stored fault. Had some questionable mechanic work done recently and want to avoid going back there. Any tips on common causes or trusted repair solutions?

The cruise control issue you describe matches what I experienced with my 2016 VW Tiguan. The dashboard indicators would light up but the system remained unresponsive, storing similar fault codes. The root cause was a damaged throttle position sensor connection. The wiring harness near the pedal assembly had worn through, creating intermittent contact issues. This affected both the cruise control and throttle response. Key diagnostic points that led to the fix: Brake light switch was functional, Speed sensor readings were normal, Main fuse box connections were intact, Fault specifically pointed to throttle circuit The repair required: 1. Complete inspection of wiring harness 2. Replacement of corroded connector pins 3. Installation of protective sleeve on cables 4. System recalibration This was a serious issue requiring professional attention since it involved critical safety systems. The throttle position sensor connection problems can affect multiple vehicle functions beyond just cruise control. The fix restored full functionality to both cruise control and throttle response. Would recommend having a certified technician inspect the wiring harness and connections rather than attempting DIY repairs on these safety-critical systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had the exact same problem with my VW Amarok last year, pedal switch issues and unresponsive cruise control. The dashboard light would come on but nothing else worked. Took it to a shop and they found a blown fuse plus some wiring problems in the throttle position sensor area. Curious what the repair cost was in your case? My bill came to around 400€ for parts and labor. Have you noticed any other electrical gremlins since the repair? My central locking started acting up about a month after, but that turned out to be unrelated.

Thanks for asking about the cost. Just had my Tiguan back from the mechanic last week and the cruise control issue is completely resolved. They traced it to a faulty cable connection at the throttle position sensor, much simpler than your case with the blown fuse and extensive wiring problems. The total repair came to 95€, which covered diagnosing and fixing the loose connector. The steering wheel controls and dashboard light now work perfectly with the cruise control system. No pedal switch issues or other electrical problems have surfaced since the repair. The lower cost in my case was because they only needed to repair the connection rather than replace components. Good thing they caught it early before it could cause more extensive damage to the wiring harness. For anyone reading who has similar symptoms: getting a proper diagnosis early can save money in the long run, as electrical issues tend to cascade if left unchecked.

I took your advice and went to a different mechanic for my cruise control problems. Their diagnostic revealed a faulty clock spring in the steering wheel plus worn wiring near the throttle position sensor. Much more thorough inspection than the previous shop. The repair took about 3 hours and cost 280€ total, reasonable considering they replaced both the clock spring and some damaged wiring. The cruise control works perfectly now and the brake lights are functioning normally too. Really glad I switched mechanics. The new shop showed me exactly what was wrong and explained how a blown fuse had caused the initial failure. They also checked all related systems to prevent future issues. No electrical problems since the repair last month. The cruise control engages smoothly and maintains speed like it should. Definitely worth getting it fixed properly by professionals who know what they're doing.
