A3 Airbag Light Stays On, Safety Alert for Drivers

Need help, Airbag warning light stays on in my 2002 A3. Anyone had similar issues with their restraint system? Not feeling great about car safety after my last mechanic visit. Running a 1.8L gas engine with 155115km. Could it be a simple sensor issue or serious airbag deployment problems? Looking for experiences and trustworthy mechanic recommendations.

Had the same SRS light issue on my 2005 A4 2.0T. The crash sensor under the front bumper was triggering false readings due to corroded wiring connections. Initially thought it was just a loose airbag plug, but diagnostic scan revealed multiple fault codes in the restraint system. The repair involved: Complete scan of airbag control module, Removal of front bumper to access crash sensors, Replacement of corroded wiring harness, Reset of airbag system This is considered a serious safety concern since faulty sensors can either prevent airbag deployment or cause unexpected deployment. Many vehicles from this era are now facing airbag recall issues due to aging components. The repair requires specialized diagnostic equipment and proper safety protocols. Regular mechanics often miss the root cause by just clearing codes. Important to have it properly diagnosed by someone familiar with SRS systems, as DIY attempts can be dangerous. After fixing the wiring and replacing the sensor, the system worked perfectly. Given the age of your A3, would recommend having all crash sensors and airbag connections inspected while they're accessing the system.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Having a similar airbag sensor issue with my A3 right now and considering getting it fixed after seeing your thorough explanation. The automotive safety concerns you raised about proper airbag deployment definitely got me worried. Could you remember roughly what you paid for the complete airbag repair? Also wondering if youve had any recurring SRS warning lights or other airbag-related problems since the fix? My local shop quoted pretty high so trying to get a sense if thats normal for this type of work.

Just an update on the repair costs since you asked, my airbag system issue turned out to be much simpler than initially expected. The mechanic found a faulty cable connection at the crash sensor, which was creating the SRS warning light. Total repair was 95 Euro to fix the connection and reset the airbag system. No recurring problems with the airbag sensor or warning lights in the 8 months since the repair. The car safety system is working perfectly now. Your quote might be higher if they suspect more extensive airbag deployment system issues or if multiple crash sensors need replacement. The key was finding a shop with proper diagnostic equipment for airbag repair. They were able to pinpoint the exact issue instead of replacing parts unnecessarily. Definitely worth getting it fixed though, proper airbag function is critical for vehicle safety. If your quote seems high, might be worth getting a second opinion from a shop specializing in restraint systems. Just make sure they have the right diagnostic tools for your specific model.

Thanks for the input. Just got back from my mechanic visit and wanted to share my experience. The SRS light issue was traced to a damaged wiring connector near the passenger airbag sensor. Total repair came to 280 Euro including diagnostic work and parts. The shop found some moisture damage that had corroded the crash sensor wiring over time. They cleaned up the connections, replaced the faulty airbag sensor, and reset the system. The warning light is now off and the restraint system is working properly. Really glad I got this fixed properly instead of trying cheaper alternatives. Having working airbags definitely gives peace of mind for car safety. The diagnostic scan showed everything is now functioning correctly. For anyone else facing similar issues, dont wait on getting SRS warning lights checked out. The repair cost was worth it for the safety assurance.
