2017 Fiat 500 Engine, ABS/DSC System, Lighting, and Battery Issues: Possible Generator Fault?

Hey I'm dealing with a bit of a head-scratcher on my 2017 Fiat 500 (Gasoline, just under 34,000 km). Lately, I've been experiencing a few quirks - engine occasionally cuts out on its own, the ABS/DSC system has gone MIA, lights are sometimes dim or even flicker, and the battery's giving me a hard time at the start. After a less than ideal visit to my last mechanic, I'm wondering if these symptoms might be due to a generator issue. Any of you gearheads experienced something similar with your ride? What did your mechanic say? All advice and insights are welcome! Cheers!

Hey. Funny you should mention that, 'cause I ran into a similar issue with my 2014 Fiat Punto not too long ago. The lights on my dash were giving me a disco show and the engine was acting up, stalling randomly. After enough scratchin' my head, I finally decided to take it to the garage. The mechanic did a full diagnostic and sure enough - generator was defective! Apparently, a faulty generator leads to not enough power being distributed around the car; hence the flickering lights, failing ABS/DSC system and the battery playing tricks. It was a bit of a job getting that fixed, but overall, it wasn't exactly what I'd call a "serious" issue. More like a nuisance. Thankfully, it didn't cause any other major damage. It was just a good thing it was caught when it was, otherwise, who knows what kind of havoc it could've caused. Hope that helps! Safe driving, Your fellow gearhead.

Hey there, A dodgy generator, huh? I've got a similar situation going on with my Fiat 500. It's been a real pain lately with all the bizarre issues popping up left, right and center. Great to hear your mechanic managed to sort it out though, gives me some hope. If you don't mind, do you remember roughly how much you dropped on the repair job? Also, since getting it fixed up, did something else flared up, or it's been smooth sailing since? Appreciate the info! Keep those wheels turning, Your fellow Fiat enthusiast.

Hey Absolutely, I remember the repair. So, in terms of costs, fixing the shoddy generator did have me forking out pretty steep at 960 smackers. But hey, since then, it's like my Fiat got a second wind! Since seeing the mechanic, my ride's generator has been absolutely spot on - no subsequent glitches or newly sprouted gremlins. Yep, it's been smooth sailing ever since. Turns out that ol' generator was guilty of almost all the unusual weird vibes my Fiat was throwing my way. Hope your Fiat gets back into tip-top shape soon. Safe motoring, Your Fiat

Hey, thanks for sharing and delighted to hear your Fiat is back on track! $960 is a bit of a sting, but if it means getting all systems back to normal, it's definitely something I'm willing to consider. And it's encouraging to hear that sorting the generator issue made a big difference, without causing new troubles down the line. Now, it seems I've got some thinking to do and a trip to arrange to the garage. Appreciate the info and will keep you all posted on the progress. Take care out there on the roads, Your Fiat 500
