Exhaust gas recirculation function
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is a tested and approved way to reduce pollutants. A certain amount of exhaust gas is extracted from the exhaust manifold and mixed back into the intake air. This reduces the proportion of oxygen in the fuel-air mixture which results in a lower combustion temperature in the cylinders. Harmful nitrogen oxides (NOx) are mainly produced at high temperatures and pressures. Therefore, the EGR can reduce the NOx concentrations released into the environment by up to 50 percent.
