WRV Key Fob Fails: Central Lock Mystery Needs Solving

Key fob issues

Locking/Unlocking issue

Hey everyone! Having some trouble with my 2021 Honda WRV diesel (152k km). The central locking system is acting up, sometimes the key fob doesn't work, and I'm having issues with doors locking/unlocking. Had a not-so-great experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar central locking problems on their WRV? Would love to hear about your experiences and if you found a reliable fix. Also, any recommendations on what to watch out for when getting this repaired? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2018 Honda HR-V diesel last year. The symptoms were exactly like yours, intermittent key fob response and unreliable central locking. Turns out it was a faulty cable connection in the driver's door harness that was causing communication issues with the central locking module. Took it to the garage and they diagnosed it through electrical testing. The repair involved replacing the door wiring harness and recalibrating the central locking system. It wasn't a major mechanical issue, but it needed proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the problem. The repair itself wasn't too complex, they had it fixed in about 3 hours. While they had it open, they also checked the other door harnesses to prevent future issues. Make sure whoever works on it does a full system check, as sometimes these problems can be related to multiple connection points. Since the repair, my central locking has worked perfectly. One tip: ask them to show you the faulty parts and explain what they're replacing. Hope this helps!

Hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear about the door harness issue, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm planning to get mine checked out soon. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair ended up costing you? And has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the locking system?

Hey again! Happy to give you an update! I took it to the mechanic and got it sorted, you'll be glad to know it was indeed a cable connection problem, just like I suspected in my earlier post. The total bill came to 155€, which included the diagnostic work and fixing the faulty connection. Honestly, it was worth every penny! The best part? The central locking has been working like a charm since the repair, no more fumbling with unresponsive key fobs or dealing with stubborn doors! It's such a relief to have it working properly again. The mechanic actually showed me the damaged cable connection, which was pretty interesting to see. One thing that really impressed me was how thorough they were, they did a complete system check to make sure there weren't any other potential issues lurking around. It's been about six months now, and I haven't had a single problem with the locking system. Honestly, if you're experiencing similar symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out. The peace of mind alone is worth it!

Thanks for all the great info! After gathering my courage, I finally took my WRV to a mechanic yesterday. You were spot on about the wiring, turned out my car had a similar issue with the door harness. The mechanic was super transparent, showed me the worn-out wiring, and explained everything clearly. The whole repair took about 4 hours, and I paid a bit more than you did, around 185€, but they also replaced some corroded connectors they found during inspection. The best part? My key fob is now working perfectly! No more awkward moments in the parking lot trying to unlock my car. Really appreciate everyone's help here, especially your detailed explanations. Honestly, I was stressing about this way more than necessary. Should've gotten it fixed sooner! Anyway, just wanted to close the loop and let you know it all worked out great. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the decision to get it sorted!
