Weak start and flickering lights on a Citroen Jumpy Diesel 2008: troubleshooting and workshop solutions

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2008 Citroen Jumpy Diesel. It starts poorly and the lights are dark or flickering. I think it might be due to the vehicle battery self-discharging, but I'm not entirely sure. Has anyone had similar experiences and can give tips on how to fix it? How did you get the problem solved in the workshop? Thank you!

Hey, I once had a similar problem with my 2006 Citroen Berlingo Diesel. I would describe myself as someone with some experience of cars. At my garage, the mechanic realized that the problem was a faulty control unit, not the battery. I had to fork out 600 euros to fix it. Can you perhaps give me a few more details about your car? Maybe then I can tell you more precisely what the problem could be. I hope that helps you a little.

Hi, thanks for your reply! So the last service was at 162254 KM, but as I said, the lights are flickering and the starting is weak. I have also noticed a strange noise that seems to be coming from the direction of the engine compartment. It almost sounds like a whirring noise. Could it be the battery or should I have the control unit checked? I know your Berlingo, they are identical. Thanks for your help!

Hey, thanks for the additional info! I know that buzzing noise you mentioned. In my Berlingo, it was actually coming from the battery at the time. It was severely discharged and had to be replaced. So it may well be that your problem is really coming from the vehicle battery. The weak start and the flickering lights also sound very much like a discharged battery. However, I would definitely recommend that you have the control unit checked as well, just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps you and let me know what comes up at the garage. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for your help and the quick reply! It looks like it could actually be the battery. I've already made an appointment at the garage for tomorrow and will have them check both - the battery and the control unit. I'll get back to you as soon as I know more. Following your advice feels like the right thing to do. I hope it helps! Until then and thanks again!
