Weak Infiniti FX Key & Lights: Electrical Mystery Help?

Vehicle cannot be unlocked or locked

|

Dim or flickering lights

Hey everyone, having some trouble with my 2013 Infiniti FX Diesel (41k km) that's driving me crazy. The keyless entry system seems to be acting up can't lock or unlock the car properly, and the lights are super weak and flickering. My last mechanic visit wasn't great, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back there. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their Infiniti? Any recommendations for a reliable mechanic who's good with electrical problems? Would really appreciate some advice on what this might be and roughly what I should expect to pay. Thanks in advance!

Had the same problem with my 2016 Infiniti QX70 Diesel last winter. The door handle sensors were acting weird, and the key fob wouldn't work properly. Turned out to be a faulty cable connection to the door handle electronics pretty common issue actually. Took it to the dealer since it's a bit tricky to diagnose electrical issues correctly. They had to remove the door panel to access and replace the wiring harness. It wasn't a massive job, but definitely needed someone who knows Infiniti's systems well. The whole thing took about 3-4 hours. The flickering lights you mentioned were exactly what I experienced it's typically a sign that the door handle's electrical connection is failing. While it's not a serious mechanical issue, it needs fixing as it affects the security system. Worth getting it checked soon you don't want to end up locked out of your car. Most Infiniti specialists should be able to handle this, but I'd recommend finding someone who regularly works with the brand's electrical systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's exactly what's been happening with mine. It's good to know I'm not the only one dealing with this. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since they fixed it? Just want to make sure it's not something that'll keep coming back to haunt me.

Hey there! Yeah, happy to help! I took my QX70 to get it fixed a couple of months back and it cost me 170€ mainly for fixing that dodgy cable connection to the door handle electronics. I'm actually really glad you asked about how it's been working since then because the keyless entry system has been working like a charm! No more flickering lights or struggling to lock/unlock the car. It was totally worth every penny because it was starting to drive me nuts before I got it sorted. The dealer really knew what they were doing and fixed it right the first time. Haven't had a single problem with it since. You know how frustrating these electrical gremlins can be, but once they're properly fixed, they usually stay fixed. Just make sure whoever works on yours knows their way around Infiniti's electrical systems. Trust me, it'll save you headaches in the long run!

Hey, thanks so much for all the info! Just wanted to update you I took your advice and finally got it sorted last week. Found a certified Infiniti specialist who really knew their stuff. Like you said, it was the door handle wiring that was acting up. Ended up paying around 190€, which wasn't as bad as I was expecting. The whole repair took about 3 hours, and the mechanic was super thorough in explaining everything. Best part? No more flickering lights or keyless entry problems! The car's working perfectly now feels like new actually. Such a relief not having to worry about getting locked out anymore. Really appreciate everyone's help with this. Sometimes these electrical issues can be so tricky to diagnose, but having someone share their similar experience made me feel a lot more confident about getting it fixed. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
