Thanks for sharing your experience with the wiring harness fix. This matches what my mechanic suspected with my VW Virtus electrical problem. The dashboard lights keep showing unusual warnings even after they cleaned the connectors last week. Did the fix fully resolve your dimmer switch issues? Would be really helpful to know roughly how much the repair cost you, since Im trying to budget for what seems like a similar job. Also curious if youve had any other electrical gremlins pop up since the repair was done.

The wiring fix completely resolved all the dimmer switch and lighting control issues on my VW. The dashboard lights and unusual warnings disappeared right after they repaired the faulty headlight switch connection last month. Total repair cost was 95€ for fixing the cable and connector assembly. The key was properly addressing the loose connection at the switch rather than just cleaning the contacts. The mechanic found the wire harness plug had a damaged pin that was causing intermittent contact. Since replacing that connector component, the system has worked flawlessly with no electrical issues or warning lights returning. The tail lights and headlight switch now function normally without any of the unusual activation problems that plagued the system before. Based on the symptoms you described, it sounds like your Virtus may have the same underlying connection issue that mine had.

Thanks for the helpful responses. Just wanted to update on how my lighting problem got resolved. Finally took it to a different mechanic who specialized in electrical problems. They did a full diagnostic and found exactly what was described, corroded wiring near the headlight switch assembly. The fix involved replacing the entire connector block and some sections of the wire harness. Also installed new weatherproofing around the switch area. Total job came to 280€ but completely worth it. The car lighting system now works perfectly with no more unusual warnings or ghost switching. For anyone facing similar fuse box and dimmer switch issues, definitely get the wiring checked thoroughly. Simply resetting error codes or cleaning contacts turned out to be just temporary fixes. The proper repair solved all the electrical gremlins that had been driving me crazy for months. Really appreciate the advice that pointed me in the right direction for diagnosing the real problem. No more dashboard warning lights or electrical system surprises.

Had the same lighting fault issue on a 2017 VW Polo TSI. The unusual headlight switch activation and warning messages were caused by a corroded wire harness connector at the main lighting control module. The root cause was water seeping through a deteriorated door seal, creating moisture buildup around the car switch assembly. This led to intermittent electrical connection failures that would temporarily clear but keep returning. The permanent fix required: Complete removal of the headlight switch assembly, Replacement of the corroded wiring connector, Installation of new weatherproof seals, Reprogramming of the lighting control module This was a serious electrical issue that could have led to complete lighting system failure. The tail lights would occasionally flicker before the full symptoms appeared. Simply clearing the error codes or replacing the automotive switch alone would not have solved the underlying wiring problem. Any moisture-related electrical issues need thorough investigation of the wiring harness, not just component replacement. Unusual lighting activations often point to corroded connections rather than switch failure.
