VW Up Turn Signal Chaos Triggers Multiple Warnings

My 2018 VW Up is displaying multiple electrical warnings and the turn indicator seems faulty. The speedometer shows an error message, and the diagnostic system has stored fault codes. The automotive lighting system acts up frequently, particularly when using turn signals. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their turn indicator causing multiple system warnings? Interested in hearing about repair solutions and workshop experiences, especially regarding lamp replacement or potential electrical faults. Looking to understand if a simple broken lens or faulty bulb could trigger these widespread warnings, or if this points to a more serious electrical problem.

I experienced a very similar issue with my 2016 VW Polo with the 1.0 TSI engine. As someone with moderate experience in car maintenance, I initially thought it was just a simple turn signal bulb replacement needed. The symptoms matched exactly what you describe, multiple electrical warnings and erratic turn signal behavior. After checking the flasher relay and attempting a basic bulb replacement, the problem persisted. My workshop discovered it was actually a damaged wiring connector near the front turn signal lamp that was causing all these cascading errors. The repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Locating the faulty connection, Replacing the damaged wiring connector, Clearing all stored fault codes Total cost was 95€ including parts and labor. Since the fix, all systems have been working perfectly with no warning messages. To better assist with your specific case, could you provide: Complete fault codes from your diagnostic scan, Whether the issues occur on both left and right turn signals, If the problem started suddenly or developed gradually, Whether you notice any correlation with weather conditions This information would help determine if your Up is experiencing the same root cause as my Polo did.

Last service was at 40000km and everything was fully functional. After reading up on similar cases, I can confirm the issue matches what you experienced. Had the diagnostic scan done which revealed a faulty ground connection causing the indicator light problems and multiple system warnings. The flasher relay test showed irregular voltage patterns. A proper electrical fault diagnosis would definitely help pinpoint the exact problem. The workshop quoted 120€ for full diagnostics and potential lamp replacement or wiring repair. My indicator issues occur on both sides and started gradually over the past week, getting worse in wet conditions. Will update once I have the repair completed. The fault codes are: P0916 Gear Selector Position Circuit Low, B2133 Control Module Communication Bus, C1301 Turn Signal Circuit Malfunction

Thanks for the detailed information and fault codes. Your symptoms and especially code C1301 strongly align with what I encountered on my VW Polo. The behavior in wet conditions further confirms my suspicion about the wiring connection issue. After my repair, I learned that water infiltration around the turn signal lamp housing often degrades the wiring connections over time. The irregular voltage patterns from your flasher relay test match exactly what my system showed before the fix. The 120€ quote seems reasonable considering the diagnostic depth needed. When they repaired my car, they also applied a protective sealant around the new connector to prevent future moisture damage, worth asking if this is included in their service. Given the identical fault progression and especially the correlation with wet weather, I strongly suspect your Up has the same underlying issue as my Polo did. The automotive lighting system warnings are typically just symptoms of the main ground connection problem. Would recommend proceeding with their diagnostic service. Just ensure they thoroughly check all ground points near the indicator light assemblies, as simply replacing bulbs or the flasher relay likely wont resolve the root cause.

The workshop completed the diagnostic scan today and confirmed the ground connection issue. You were absolutely right, the problem originated from corroded wiring connectors near the turn signal lamp housing. The moisture damage had gradually affected both indicator lights and triggered the multiple system warnings. The repair included: Replacing damaged wiring connectors, Installing new turn signal lamp assemblies, Applying waterproof sealant, Clearing fault codes Total cost came to 135€, slightly higher than quoted due to needing both lamp assemblies replaced. The flasher relay and other electrical components were tested and found to be working correctly. All warning messages have cleared and the turn indicators now function perfectly. The automotive lighting system shows no more errors, and the speedometer display is back to normal. Really glad I addressed this before the wet season, as the technician mentioned the problem would have likely gotten much worse with additional moisture exposure. Will monitor the repair over the next few weeks, but everything seems to be working as it should. Thanks for helping identify the root cause, saved time by pointing the workshop directly to the wiring connections rather than starting with basic bulb replacements.
