Thanks for sharing your experience. Had nearly identical issues with my 2014 Up after the seat heater stopped working last winter. Makes sense about the heating mat failing, my automotive repair shop also found broken connections in the seat cushion heating element. Did you remember roughly how much the repair cost in the end? Also curious if your seat heater has been working reliably since the fix or if any other heating problems came up later. Trying to decide if its worth fixing mine or just living without it.

Finally got the automotive repair done last month and can confirm the seat heater is working perfectly now. The complete replacement of the heating mat solved all issues, no more temperature control problems or cold spots. The total repair cost was 390€ which covered both parts and labor. This included removing and reinstalling the seat cover, replacing the defective heating element, and testing the thermal sensor system. While not cheap, having reliable seat heating again makes winter driving much more comfortable. The heating repair has been completely stable since then. The temperature control responds quickly and heats evenly across the entire seat surface. Based on my experience, I would recommend getting it fixed rather than going without. A properly functioning seat heater adds significant comfort, especially during cold morning commutes. No other heating-related problems have occurred since the repair. The shop mentioned these replacement heating mats are built with improved durability compared to the original parts, which should help prevent future failures.

Thanks for the advice. Just wanted to share how my repair went. Took it to an independent automotive repair shop last week for the seat heating issue. They confirmed it was indeed a failed heating element, not just a thermal sensor problem. The repair cost came to 360€ total, slightly less than expected. They had to completely remove the seat cover to replace the heating mat, but managed to complete everything in one day. The seat heater now works better than it did before. Heat distribution is really even and the temperature control responds much faster. The shop installed an updated version of the heating element that they said should last longer than the original. For anyone facing similar issues, getting it fixed was definitely worth it. The new heating system has been working flawlessly for the past week, even on the highest setting. No cold spots or temperature fluctuations like before.

Had a similar seat heater failure in my 2017 VW e-Golf. The temperature control module stopped working completely, showing the same error code. Initially thought it was just the thermal sensor, but diagnostic tests revealed the heating mat inside the seat cushion had failed. The seat heating mat needed full replacement since it had several broken internal connections. This is a known issue with these heating elements, they can develop breaks in the wiring over time due to constant seat movement and pressure. The repair involved removing the entire seat cover and foam to access the heating element. Not a quick fix since techs need to carefully separate all layers without damaging the upholstery. The seat warmer system has multiple components working together, the control module, temperature sensors, and the heating mat itself. This was a serious repair requiring specialized knowledge. Would not recommend DIY attempts since improper installation can lead to uneven heating or complete system failure. The heating elements need precise positioning within the seat cushion for proper function and safety. Most common causes of complete heating failure: Broken wiring in heating mat, Failed temperature sensors, Damaged control module, Loose connections in the system Important to get proper diagnosis since symptoms can be similar for different underlying issues.
