VW Up EV Shutdown After Mechanic's Wiring Work

My EV started showing reduced power and shut off completely while driving. The dashboard shows a high-voltage system warning light and stored error messages. This happened right after my last mechanic visit where they did some electrical wiring work. Has anyone experienced similar system malfunction with their 2023 VW Up electric? Looking for advice before taking it back to a shop. Car has 129832km on it and was running fine before the last service.

I experienced this exact electrical fault with my 2020 VW ID.3. The symptoms started similarly, power reduction followed by complete shutdown with battery warning lights. The root cause in my case traced back to a faulty inverter issue that developed after routine maintenance. The high-voltage system triggered a protective shutdown when it detected irregular power flow. This is actually a safety feature to prevent potential damage to critical electrical components. The repair required: Full diagnostic scan of the high-voltage system, Replacement of the main power inverter, Recalibration of the battery management system, Testing of all electrical wiring connections This was classified as a serious issue requiring immediate attention since it affects core EV systems. The car was in the shop for 4 days while they sourced parts and completed the repair work. Given your symptoms started after electrical work, I suggest getting it checked immediately. The battery warning combined with sudden power loss points to potential inverter failure or damaged electrical wiring from the recent service. Have them specifically check the high-voltage connections they worked on during the last visit.

Thanks for sharing your ID.3 experience! I had nearly identical symptoms with my 2023 Up last winter, power cutting out and voltage sensor warnings after routine maintenance. Seems like cable damage during servicing is more common than we think. The repair approach you outlined matches what my shop recommended. Did you get any warranty coverage for the inverter issue? My total repair cost was around 2800€ and wondering if that was reasonable. Also curious if youve had any electrical fault codes pop up since the fix?

The inverter repair on my ID.3 was covered under the manufacturers warranty since it was a documented fault. In your case, 2800€ seems within range given the extensive electrical repair work required. Great news though, since having the voltage sensor and cable damage issues fixed, my car has been running perfectly with no electrical fault codes. The final repair bill came to 290€ for resolving the heavily discharged battery condition. The high-voltage system error message disappeared completely after they corrected the charging system malfunction. I recommend keeping detailed service records in case similar electrical wiring issues develop. This type of system malfunction can sometimes indicate underlying problems with the charging components. The key is catching any EV problems early before they affect the entire electrical system. The repair shops diagnostic approach helped identify the exact issue without replacing unnecessary parts. Regular system checks have kept my ID.3 running smoothly for the past year without any battery or charging concerns.

Had my Up in the shop last week to sort this out. After dropping the car off, they did a full diagnostic scan which confirmed problems with the inverter and damaged cables from the previous service. The battery drain was worse than initially thought. The repair team found several damaged connection points that were causing the electrical fault messages. They replaced the faulty inverter unit and repaired all affected wiring. The high-voltage system needed complete recalibration after the fixes. Total repair time was 3 days and cost came to 2800€. Pretty steep, but worth it to get the car running properly again. The system malfunction warnings cleared up immediately and power delivery is back to normal. Been driving for about a week now with zero battery warning lights or error codes. The shop documented everything well and gave me a detailed report of all repairs. Will definitely be more careful about who works on the electrical systems going forward. Really appreciate the advice, it helped me better understand what I was dealing with and what to expect during repairs.
