VW Up Climate Control Sensor Failure Fix Guide

My interior climate control system is acting up, the automatic temperature control wont work and the A/C stays off completely. The error memory shows a fault code. Based on my research, it might be a temperature sensor issue. Anyone dealt with similar sensor diagnostics or sensor replacement on a 2017 VW Up (1.0L gas, 117977km)? Just want to know what to expect at the mechanic after a previous bad experience.

I encountered a similar temperature sensor issue on my 2014 VW Polo TSI. The climate control system showed comparable symptoms, no automatic temperature control function and the A/C remained unresponsive. The diagnostic scan revealed faulty wiring connections to the cabin temperature sensor. The main issue was corrosion in the connector plug behind the control panel, affecting the temperature reading accuracy. The repair involved cleaning the connector terminals and replacing a damaged section of the wiring harness. This is typically not a serious repair but requires precise diagnostic work to pinpoint the exact location of the connection problem. In my case, the mechanic needed to partially disassemble the dashboard to access the sensor plug connections. The repair took about 2 hours including testing. Key points from the repair: The temperature sensor itself was functioning correctly, Main problem was in the wiring connection, Required specialized diagnostic equipment to verify sensor readings, Full system test was needed after repair to ensure proper climate control operation Consider requesting a thorough diagnostic scan first, as similar symptoms can stem from different sensor issues in the temperature control system.

Really appreciate your detailed explanation, I have the exact same HVAC sensor symptoms in my VW Up. The climate regulation is completely off, just like you described. My mechanic also mentioned checking the wiring and connections first before jumping to a full sensor replacement. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Also curious if you had any recurring sensor issues since the fix? Just want to get an idea of what to budget for and if the repair tends to be a long-term solution.

Following up on your questions, happy to report I had a successful repair outcome with my VW Polo. The mechanic located and fixed the faulty interior temperature sensor connection, which cost 95€ for the wiring repair work. It turned out to be a damaged cable and plug connection affecting the climate control system, just as they initially suspected. The repair has proven to be a lasting solution, no recurring sensor issues or climate regulation problems in the months since. The automatic temperature control and A/C are working perfectly now. Based on my experience, once the wiring connection is properly fixed, these types of sensor diagnostics typically lead to a permanent resolution. Good call having your mechanic check the connections first. Sensor replacement isn't always necessary when the root cause is in the wiring. The systematic diagnostic approach helped identify the exact problem without unnecessary parts replacement. The repair time and cost were reasonable compared to replacing the entire sensor unit. Just make sure they verify the climate control system is functioning correctly across all settings after the fix.

The climate control system issue has been fixed and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. Took my VW Up to the shop last week after getting helpful advice about checking the wiring connections. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed a faulty connection causing the HVAC sensor problems. The repair was straightforward, they found corroded wiring near the temperature sensor that was disrupting the climate regulation. Total cost came to 120€ for cleaning the connections and replacing a small section of damaged wiring. The entire job took about 2.5 hours. Best part is the climate control is working perfectly now. The automatic temperature readings are accurate and the A/C kicks in properly. Really glad I had them check the wiring first instead of jumping straight to replacing the sensor unit. Definitely saved some money there. Still monitoring things but no issues so far with the fix. The systematic diagnostic approach my mechanic used really paid off.
