VW Transporter Boost Issues: Faulty Temp Sensor Alert

Looking for help with my 2022 VW Transporter showing reduced power and making whistling sounds. The check engine light is on and the error memory points to a charge air temperature sensor issue. The hissing gets especially loud during acceleration. Has anyone dealt with a similar temperature sensor problem on these engines? Would like to know what repairs were needed and if there are any common fixes the workshops typically do. Any experience with repair costs would be helpful too.

Having some experience with VW repairs, I encountered a similar issue on my 2020 VW Multivan. The symptoms were nearly identical, reduced power, whistling noise, and engine light related to the air temperature sensor. The airflow sensor system was reporting incorrect readings due to a loose connection. After inspecting the engine sensor wiring, the workshop found that the plug connection to the charge air temperature sensor had deteriorated, causing inconsistent readings. The repair involved: Testing the air sensor functionality, Replacing the damaged connector, Recalibrating the engine sensor system, Clearing the error codes Total cost was 95€ including diagnostic work and parts. The fix took about an hour and completely resolved both the whistling sound and power loss issues. Before suggesting specific solutions, could you provide: Engine size and type, Current mileage, When the symptoms first appeared, Any recent work done on the engine, Whether the whistling changes with engine temperature This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with the automotive sensor system.

Just had my 26301km service last month and experiencing the exact same symptoms as the others mentioned. My car got repaired at an authorized garage and the technician confirmed that the temperature sensor and charge sensor wiring harness needed replacement. They found corrosion at the connector pins which caused faulty air temperature readings. The engine control unit was receiving incorrect data from the automotive sensor, leading to the power reduction and whistling. Total repair cost was 285€ including parts and labor. The whistling noise and power issues disappeared completely after the fix. Let me know if you need more specific details about the repair process.

Thanks for the update on your VW repair. The issues with my Multivan were indeed very similar, and it looks like the root cause matches, faulty connections at the air sensor causing incorrect temperature readings. The price difference is interesting though. My 95€ repair only needed connector replacement and recalibration, while your case required the complete temperature sensor and wiring harness replacement due to the corrosion. That explains the higher 285€ cost at the authorized dealer. These air intake sensor issues seem to be a weak point on these VW engines. The temperature fluctuation readings from corroded connectors trick the engine management into reducing power. At least the fix is straightforward once diagnosed correctly. For prevention, its worth checking the air sensor connections during regular services to catch any early signs of corrosion. The whistling noise is actually a good early warning sign of air intake or temperature sensor problems before more serious issues develop. Good to hear your car is running properly again. The authorized repair should give you a solid warranty on the new parts.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I wanted to close this thread with a quick update after running the car for a few weeks post-repair. The new temperature sensor and charge sensor wiring have completely resolved the issues. No more whistling sounds during acceleration and the engine power is back to normal. The airflow sensor readings are stable according to my diagnostic tool. For anyone searching with similar symptoms on these VW engines, get the air temperature sensor connections checked early if you hear whistling. The 285€ repair cost at the dealer was worth it to prevent any potential engine damage from running with incorrect temperature readings. The service included: Full diagnostic scan, Temperature sensor replacement, New wiring harness installation, System recalibration, Error code clearing Everything has been perfect for over 1000km now. Just wanted to share the positive outcome and thank those who helped diagnose the issue.
