VW Touran Stalling: Bad Fuel Pressure Sensor Alert

Just had terrible service at a shop and now worried about my 2008 VW Touran diesel (237k km). Engine keeps stalling at idle, runs really rough, and jerks during acceleration. Check engine light is also on. Research points to fuel pressure sensor issues. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Need reliable mechanic recommendations and wondering about typical repair costs for fuel delivery system problems.

Had the exact same symptoms on my 2005 VW Passat TDI last month, rough idle, engine misfire, and stalling. Initially thought it was the fuel pump, but diagnostic testing revealed faulty wiring connections at the fuel pressure sensor. The check engine light helped pinpoint the issue. The repair involved cleaning corroded terminals and replacing a damaged wiring harness connector leading to the fuel pressure sensor. The fuel delivery system itself was fine, just the electrical connections were compromised. Not a major repair in terms of components, but critical for proper engine function and fuel economy. Left untreated, bad sensor connections can cause long-term damage to the fuel system and engine. The stalling issue completely resolved after fixing the connections. Important to note, while sensor connection issues are common on these VW diesels, always get a proper diagnostic scan first. Similar symptoms could point to other fuel system problems that require more extensive repairs.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Touran actually had very similar issues with rough idle and stalling last year. The fuel pressure sensor was also the culprit in my case, but I needed a complete sensor replacement rather than just fixing the wiring. Do you remember roughly what you paid for the repair? Also curious if youve had any fuel system problems since getting it fixed? The fuel economy on mine has been great after the repair, but always good to hear long-term feedback from others.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. Since getting the fuel pressure sensor connection fixed, my Passat has been running perfectly. The repair was straightforward, 95€ to resolve the cable and plug connection issues. The fuel system has been working flawlessly, with no check engine light or stalling problems since. The fuel economy actually improved after the repair, likely because the fuel delivery system is now getting accurate pressure readings. While your case needed a complete sensor replacement, my simpler wiring fix proved sufficient for restoring proper fuel injector function. Its been 6 months now with zero fuel system related issues. The rough idle and acceleration problems disappeared completely once the mechanic fixed those faulty connections. Getting it addressed quickly helped avoid any potential damage to other fuel system components.

I finally went to the mechanic last week after dealing with these annoying stalling issues. Turns out replacing the fuel pressure sensor was really the right call, cost me 280€ including parts and labor. The rough idle and check engine light problems cleared up immediately. The mechanic showed me the old sensor which was completely corroded. He mentioned these issues are pretty common on high-mileage VWs, especially when the fuel delivery system starts showing its age. The new sensor made a huge difference in how the car runs. My fuel economy has improved significantly, getting about 15% better mileage now. No more jerky acceleration or stalling at traffic lights. Really glad I got it sorted before it could cause damage to other parts of the fuel system.
