Latest service was done at 112000km, just three months ago. Thanks for sharing your experience. My case seems a bit different since all other electrical components including the power seats on the driver side are working perfectly fine. The passenger seat controls just died suddenly during normal operation without any warning signs or dashboard lights. Have tried checking the fuses but they all appear intact. The seat wiring looks undamaged from what I can see, though access is limited without removing the seat completely. Strange that the failure happened so abruptly while everything else is working normally. I wonder if replacing just the seat control module would fix it or if the entire seat harness needs to be changed. Really hoping to avoid a complete automotive seat overhaul since that would likely be quite expensive. Will get it checked at a shop but wanted to gather some insights from others who may have dealt with similar sudden passenger seat failures first.

Thanks for the additional details. Since your case shows different symptoms than my Passat did, I suspect you are dealing with a localized issue in the passenger seat system rather than a general electrical problem. On my car, when I later had an isolated seat motor failure in the passenger seat, the repair was simpler than a full seat harness replacement. The seat motors often fail before the wiring harness does, especially with sudden failures like yours. The seat motor replacement cost me around 180€ including labor. Key points from my second seat repair: No warning lights or other electrical issues, Driver seat worked perfectly, Sudden complete failure of adjustment, Seat motor was the culprit Since your car shows the same pattern, I recommend having the shop test the seat motor first before exploring more complex repairs. A faulty electric seat motor will typically fail abruptly like this, while harness issues usually show intermittent problems first. The seat adjustment module is worth checking too, but in my experience with these VWs, when its just the passenger side and happens suddenly, the seat motor is the most likely cause.

Based on that helpful information, I think I will have the shop focus on testing the seat motor first since the symptoms match your second repair experience so closely. The sudden failure without any warning really points toward the motor rather than a wiring issue. Good to know replacing just the seat motor was possible in your case without needing a complete seat harness overhaul. That sounds a lot more reasonable than what I was worried about cost-wise. The 180€ repair cost you mentioned gives me a rough idea of what to expect. I will get it scheduled with my regular shop this week and have them specifically check the passenger seat motor and control module. If they find anything different causing the problem, I will update this thread to help others who might face similar automotive seat issues in the future. Really appreciate you sharing both repair experiences. It helps narrow down the likely causes when the failure pattern matches so closely with a known fix.

Having dealt with a similar electric seat issue on my 2008 VW Passat, I can share my experience. I have some basic experience working on cars, mostly routine maintenance and minor electrical fixes. The symptoms were identical, complete failure of the seat adjustment controls on the passenger side. After checking the automotive seat components, my mechanic found the root cause was a heavily discharged battery that damaged the seat control module. The failing battery created voltage fluctuations that affected the seat harness and electrical systems. The fix involved: 1. Testing the seat switch connections 2. Replacing the battery 3. Resetting the seat control module 4. Testing all seat adjustment functions Total repair cost was 290€, including parts and labor. The job took about 2 hours to complete. Before suggesting specific solutions, could you share: Have you checked if other electrical components are working properly? Does the driver seat adjustment still work normally? Are there any other warning lights on the dashboard? Did this issue start suddenly or develop gradually? This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or might be something different with the seat harness or control module.
