VW Touran Fuel System Fix, Expert Tips Revealed

My 2008 VW Touran diesel is running rough and showing engine warning lights. The error log points to potential fuel quantity issues. Has anyone dealt with drift compensation problems on these engines? Would like to hear about successful fixes and workshop experiences. Currently investigating if a compensation adjustment or system reset might resolve the rough running. Looking for real repair stories and tips before heading to a workshop for performance tuning and diagnostics.

Had a similar issue with my 2006 VW Passat 2.0 TDI. Started with rough running and warning lights, especially during cold starts. Have some experience with basic maintenance but fuel injection problems were beyond my skill level. The onboard diagnostics showed fuel quantity deviation errors. Took it to a workshop where they found a faulty injector causing irregular fuel delivery. They performed a complete diagnosis using specialized equipment to check the injection timing and fuel pressure. The repair involved: Testing all fuel injectors, Replacing one defective injector, Running compensation adjustment procedures, Performing a full system reset, Clearing fault codes Total cost was 515€ including parts and labor. Car has been running smoothly since the repair, with no warning lights or rough running issues. To provide more specific advice about your case: Which engine variant does your Touran have? Are there any specific error codes stored? Does the rough running occur more during cold starts or when warm? Have you noticed any changes in fuel consumption? The car sensors might be picking up different issues depending on your specific engine type, so these details would help narrow down the probable cause.

Last service done at 95000km, just a few weeks ago. My fuel economy has dropped significantly since these issues started, going from 6.2L/100km to around 7.8L/100km. The rough running happens mostly when the engine is warm, particularly during steady highway cruising. After reading your experience, I checked the error codes again. Getting P0202 and P1089 from the onboard diagnostics scan tool. The rough running seems worse than when I first posted. Starting to think it might indeed be an injector issue like in your case. The system reset I tried using the basic scan tool didnt help at all. Would probably need that specialized workshop equipment you mentioned for a proper compensation adjustment. Thanks for sharing the repair cost details. Helps set realistic expectations for the upcoming workshop visit.

Thanks for those additional details. The error codes and symptoms definitely point toward injector problems, just like I had. P0202 specifically indicates cylinder 2 injector issues, while P1089 relates to fuel quantity adaptation, matches exactly what happened with my Passat. Your fuel consumption increase is actually worse than what I experienced. My jump was about 1L/100km before fixing the faulty injector. The fact that your rough running occurs during warm highway cruising rather than cold starts suggests possible carbon buildup affecting the injector spray pattern. The basic system reset rarely helps with injector-related issues. The workshop will need specialized diagnostic equipment to: Measure precise injection timing, Test airflow sensors performance, Run detailed injector response tests, Perform proper compensation adjustment Based on current parts prices, you might be looking at 600-700€ if injector replacement is needed. The specialized diagnostic equipment helps pinpoint exactly which injector is failing, preventing unnecessary parts replacement. Worth mentioning that attempting further basic resets without fixing the underlying issue could cause the onboard diagnostics to store incorrect adaptation values. Best to let professionals handle the compensation adjustment with proper equipment.

Thanks for all the input. Called a workshop specializing in fuel injection repairs and booked an appointment for next week. They confirmed they have the right diagnostic equipment for testing injectors and performing proper compensation adjustments. The error codes and symptoms match closely with what others experienced. That fuel consumption increase from 6.2L to 7.8L/100km is really hurting my wallet, so getting this fixed soon makes sense. Good to know the rough running during warm highway cruising points to potential carbon buildup. Their initial quote ranges between 600-800€ depending on what the onboard diagnostics reveal during detailed testing. At least I know what to expect now after hearing about similar repair experiences. Will avoid trying any more basic system resets until they can check it properly with their specialized equipment. Thanks everyone for the detailed insights. Really helped understand what Im dealing with and set proper expectations for the repair costs and process.
