VW Touran Door Lock System: Complete Failure Fix Guide

Looking for help with a frustrating door lock issue on my 2009 VW Touran. The central locking system has completely stopped working, cant lock or unlock any doors through the remote or manual key. The door sensor appears to be malfunctioning as the car doesnt recognize when doors are open or closed. Before taking it to a workshop, Id like to know if anyone has dealt with similar door latch or electrical issues on their Touran. What was the actual problem and how was it resolved? Particularly interested in common failure points and typical repair costs. Any insights from those whove had this fixed would be greatly appreciated.

Having worked on a 2011 VW Golf with a similar door locking issue, I can share my experience. As someone with basic car maintenance experience, I initially thought it was just the key fob battery, but it turned out to be more complex. The main problem was a faulty wiring harness connection near the door latch. The contact signal between the door sensor and the central locking system was intermittent due to worn-out cables. The workshop found that moisture had caused corrosion in the connector, disrupting the door sensor signals. The repair involved replacing part of the wiring harness and reconnecting the door latch components. Total cost was 95€, which included diagnostic time and parts. The fix resolved both the locking issues and the door sensor problems. To provide more specific advice for your Touran, could you share: Have you noticed any clicking sounds when trying to lock/unlock? Are there any other electrical issues in the vehicle doors? Does the key fob work for the trunk/boot? Have you checked if individual door latches still work manually? This information would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced with my Golf.

Last service was done at 142000km, so I can share some recent updates. Since my initial post, I checked both the drivers and passenger door latches manually, they still work when using the physical key. No clicking sounds at all when pressing the remote. The trunk actually responds sometimes to the key fob, but very inconsistently. I took a closer look at the drivers door area and noticed some exposed wiring near where the harness enters the door frame. Think this could be causing my electrical issue with the central locking? Seems like the wiring harness might be damaged right at that flex point. The door sensor warning light now comes on out of nowhere while driving too. Starting to think these problems are connected to the same underlying wiring problem rather than just a faulty door latch.

Thanks for the additional details on your Touran. The symptoms you describe are very similar to what I dealt with on my Golf, especially the unusual door sensor warnings and inconsistent trunk operation. The exposed wiring you spotted near the door frame is likely the culprit. In my case, the wiring harness was damaged in almost the exact same location. This area flexes constantly with door movement, making it prone to wear. When the wires start breaking down, it causes intermittent electrical issues affecting both the automatic locks and sensor signals. The fact that your door latches work manually but the central locking fails points strongly to a wiring problem rather than a mechanical door latch issue. The unusual sensor warnings definitely suggest damaged wires interrupting the signal. Based on my repair experience, you will likely need: Replacement section of door wiring harness, New connector at the door junction, Possible door latch sensor recalibration My repair cost was around 95€, but catching it early before more extensive wiring damage occurs can help keep costs down. Would recommend getting it checked soon since exposed wiring can lead to more serious electrical problems if moisture gets in.

The exposed wiring you mentioned definitely seems to be the root cause, matches up perfectly with what others have experienced. Good catch on checking the manual operation first too, as that helped narrow things down. Having both the erratic door sensor warnings and central locking issues really points to damaged wiring rather than individual component failures. The wiring harness getting worn at that flex point is apparently a common weak spot on these cars. 95€ for the repair is actually lower than I expected, especially if it includes parts and labor. Think I will get it looked at next week before any water damage makes things worse. Better to fix the wiring now than risk more extensive electrical problems. Thanks for sharing your Golf experience, really helpful to know it was a similar wiring harness issue rather than having to replace the entire automatic locks system or door latch assembly. Will update once I get it sorted out.
