VW Touran Diesel 2017: Black smoke, jerky acceleration and failed DPF regeneration

Hello everyone, I'm currently having a bit of stress with my 2017 VW Touran diesel. It smokes black when accelerating, the engine control light is on, DPF regeneration fails, it jerks during acceleration and the exhaust smells extremely strong. Somehow I have the feeling that the diesel particulate filter is overloaded. Have any of you ever had problems like this and can give me a few tips? How did you get this solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I had a similar problem with my VW Passat Diesel from 2015. I classify myself as "low experience" when it comes to cars. So, I had to trust my garage and they solved the problem in the end. In the end, my DPF was internally defective and had to be completely replaced, which cost me 1550 euros (not an original DPF from VW but a high-quality replacement part). It was expensive, but the problem has been gone since the replacement. My recommendation would be to discuss the matter with your regular garage and have the DPF replaced if necessary. Could you share a few more details about your vehicle so that I can perhaps help you further? How many kilometers has your Touran driven? How often do you drive long distances? This may be helpful for the diagnosis.

Hey, thanks for your reply! My Touran has already been through quite a lot, it now has 272355 km on the clock. I mainly drive short distances, so maybe that's the reason. I'll probably have to have a chat with my garage. Thanks again for the tip!

Hey, thanks for the info! So, with this number of kilometers, the diesel particulate filter could actually be the problem, because a lot of soot can accumulate due to the many short trips, which can lead to a clogged or overloaded DPF. I would definitely visit the garage and have it checked there. Replacing the DPF was expensive in my case, but since then my Passat hasn't had any more problems. Keep your fingers crossed that the repair won't be that expensive!

Hey, thanks for the advice! It does look like I'm going to have to deal with a broken DPF. Replacement will probably be unavoidable, although it will take a big bite out of my budget. But what must, must, right? I hope everything is back to normal after the replacement. Thanks again for sharing your experience with me! Fingers crossed that things don't get too far out of hand.
