VW Touran AC Failure with Warning Lights Needs Fix

AC stopped working in my 2022 VW Touran plus warning lights. Anyone dealt with a failed compressor? Red warning light came on yesterday and the automotive cooling system completely shut down. Car has logged an error code and the AC unit issues include no cold air and system won't even activate. Running at 42908km with a gasoline engine, well maintained. Previous mechanic experience was questionable, so looking for recommendations on typical repair costs and trusted repair shops. Does this sound like a compressor failure based on your experience? Getting worried about car air conditioning repairs during summer.

Had a similar vehicle HVAC system failure in my 2019 VW Tiguan with the 2.0 TSI engine at 39000km. The symptoms matched exactly, red warning light, no response from controls, and complete cooling system shutdown. The car air conditioning repair revealed multiple issues. Initial diagnosis pointed to the compressor, but testing showed the control unit was actually the core problem. The control module had failed, causing a safety shutdown of the entire cooling system to prevent compressor damage. The repair involved replacing the AC control module and performing a complete system diagnostic. A serious repair requiring specialized VW diagnostic equipment and proper refrigerant handling. The system needed evacuation, control unit replacement, and refrigerant recharge with the exact specified amount. The work took 2 full days at the shop since they needed to verify all automotive cooling components were functioning correctly after the new control unit installation. They also performed a leak test to ensure the system was properly sealed. Would strongly recommend having this checked soon, as running without proper cooling system function can lead to additional component failures. The control unit issue is known in some VW models from this generation.

Thanks for sharing your experience with that AC control module problem. Sounds exactly like what I am dealing with now. How much did you end up paying for the whole air conditioning repair? My local shop quoted me significantly higher than expected for parts and labor. Also curious if you have had any other AC compressor or cooling system problems since the control unit was replaced? I want to make sure this fix will actually solve the issue long term and not just temporarily patch things up.

Since having the car air conditioning repair done on my Tiguan, the system has worked flawlessly. The total cost came to 980€ for the complete fix, including parts and labor. The failed control unit was indeed the root cause, not the AC compressor as initially suspected. The cooling system has performed perfectly for over 18 months now with no vehicle HVAC issues whatsoever. The repair shop did a thorough job testing all components after installation, which likely helped prevent any follow-up problems. The automotive cooling system maintains consistent temperatures and the AC blows properly cold air in all settings. Looking back, the investment was worth it to have the work done correctly. A proper repair should resolve the issue completely, there is no need for temporary fixes when dealing with these control unit failures. Regular maintenance since the repair has shown all components working within normal parameters.

Finally got the car back from the shop yesterday. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the control module causing the automotive cooling system failure. Total repair came to 890€ which included the new control unit, labor, and a complete AC system check. The car air conditioning is working perfectly now, cold air blasting like new. They did a full refrigerant leak test and system pressure check while it was in. No issues found with the AC compressor or other components. The warning lights are gone and all controls respond normally. Much better experience with this shop compared to my previous mechanic. They took time explaining the diagnosis and showed me the faulty control unit. Really appreciate the heads up about getting it fixed quickly before causing more damage. Will definitely keep up with regular maintenance to avoid future HVAC problems.
