VW Touareg TPMS Warning Despite Normal Tire Pressure

Hi all! My 2015 VW Touareg (gas engine, 67147km) keeps showing a low tire pressure warning on the dashboard. I checked the air pressure manually and all tires seem fine. The TPMS issue is also stored in the error memory according to my mechanic. Had some bad experiences with repairs lately, so I want to get your input before going back. Anyone dealt with similar sensor fault problems on their Touareg? What was the actual issue and repair cost in your case? Thanks for any advice.

I encountered a similar TPMS issue on my 2018 VW Tiguan. After the tire pressure warning kept appearing despite correct tire inflation, diagnostics revealed a failing TPMS sensor battery in one wheel. The air valve integrated TPMS sensors typically last 5-7 years before their batteries deplete. When this happens, the system shows false warnings even with proper tire pressure. The sensor battery cannot be replaced separately, the entire TPMS sensor unit needs changing. This is not a serious mechanical issue, but rather a maintenance item. The repair requires removing the tire, replacing the sensor, then remounting and balancing the tire. The system then needs recalibration using diagnostic equipment. In my case, one sensor had failed but the garage recommended replacing all four since the others were likely to follow soon given their age. The TPMS sensors on your 2015 Touareg are approaching typical end of life, which matches the symptoms you describe. Worth noting that driving with a faulty TPMS sensor wont damage the vehicle, but you lose the safety benefit of automatic tire pressure monitoring.

Thanks for sharing your Tiguan experience! Had the exact same TPMS headache with my 2015 Touareg last winter. The low tire pressure warning kept popping up despite proper tire inflation in all wheels. Got it fixed with new sensors and everything has been working perfectly since. Would you mind sharing what you paid for the full sensor replacement? Also curious if any other TPMS-related issues came up after the repair? My tire check system has been flawless but always good to know what to watch out for.

The TPMS sensor replacement on my Tiguan worked out great. Like your Touareg, my flat tire warning kept appearing despite correct air pressure readings. The mechanic found a depleted sensor battery and took care of it a few months ago, total cost was 280€ for the repair. Since fixing the faulty pressure sensor, the system has been working perfectly with no false warnings. The pressure gauge readings have stayed accurate and consistent. This type of repair typically provides a long-term solution since the new sensors come with fresh batteries rated for several years of use. The most important thing is having a reliable tire monitoring system that alerts you to actual air pressure issues when they occur. With the new sensor installed, you can trust those dashboard warnings again when they appear. I suggest keeping the service receipt in case any warranty coverage is needed, but based on my experience, you likely wont face additional TPMS complications for quite a while.

Thanks for the helpful input. Finally went to get this fixed at my usual shop yesterday. The sensor fault diagnosis was spot on, all four TPMS sensors were at end of life. Total repair came to 320€ including labor, new sensors, and system recalibration. The mechanic showed me the old sensors and explained how the depleted batteries were causing those phantom low tire pressure warnings despite proper tire inflation. Quick 2-hour job and the TPMS issue is completely resolved. No more false warnings on the dashboard. Really glad I got this done, now I can trust the system to alert me if there's an actual flat tire situation. Would definitely recommend getting all sensors replaced at once if anyone else runs into similar problems with an older vehicle. Makes sense since they tend to fail around the same time anyway.
