VW Touareg MAP Sensor Causing Power Loss and High Fuel Use

My engine is acting up with reduced power and poor response, plus burning more fuel than usual. The check engine light recently came on. Since my last mechanic visit was a total disaster, I want to make sure I diagnose this right before going back. Signs point to a MAP sensor issue but I would like to hear from others who dealt with similar automotive sensor problems. Anyone had comparable symptoms with their manifold pressure readings? Car details: 2019 VW Touareg gasoline, 101884km.

Had similar issues with my 2016 VW Tiguan. The symptoms matched exactly, sluggish acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and check engine light. The intake manifold pressure sensor was reporting incorrect readings, causing the engine management system to miscalculate fuel mixture. A vacuum leak test revealed significant pressure loss around the intake manifold. The pressure sensor failure was causing incorrect air-fuel ratios, seriously impacting engine performance. The problem required immediate attention since continued driving could have led to further engine damage. The fix involved a complete sensor replacement and resealing of the intake manifold gaskets. After repair, engine performance returned to normal immediately. The fuel consumption dropped back to standard levels within the next tank. These manifold pressure sensor issues are relatively common in VAG engines. When the sensor starts failing, it typically shows these exact symptoms. Worth getting it checked soon, as running with incorrect air-fuel mixtures can cause long-term issues with other engine components. Best to have a proper diagnostic test done to confirm the sensor readings and check for any vacuum leaks around the intake system.

Had exact same trouble 2 months back with my Touareg. The sensor replacement sorted all the problems. Have not experienced any issues since the repair, fuel consumption is back to normal and engine performance feels smooth again. Just wondering, how much did the manifold pressure sensor fix cost you? My repair bill came to 380€ including parts and labor, but prices might vary. Have you noticed any other symptoms coming up since the repair? Mine sometimes makes a brief whistling sound on cold starts, but that might be unrelated. A full intake manifold inspection might be worth doing while they have it open, since these sensor failures can sometimes hide other developing issues.

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. Just had the MAP sensor issue fixed last week, total bill came to 235€ for addressing the large vacuum leakage they found. The manifold pressure sensor replacement was definitely worth every cent, my Tiguan runs perfectly now with no whistling or other unusual noises. The repair shop did a complete intake manifold inspection while fixing the automotive sensor problem. They found and sealed all the vacuum leaks, which was actually causing the incorrect pressure readings. Since the repair, fuel consumption has normalized and engine response is back to factory specs. No new issues have emerged after the fix. The initial sensor failure symptoms completely disappeared once they properly diagnosed and addressed the vacuum leakage. If your Touareg is making whistling sounds, definitely get that checked, could indicate a developing air leak in the intake system.

I took the car to a mechanic last week and they properly diagnosed the MAP sensor issue. Cost me 380€ which included both parts and labor. The manifold pressure sensor replacement made an immediate difference, engine performance went from sluggish to smooth in an instant. The mechanic did a thorough check of the entire intake manifold system while replacing the automotive sensor. Found some minor vacuum leaks which they sealed up. Really glad I got it all fixed in one go since the engine now runs perfectly, no more excessive fuel consumption or power issues. Only thing is this slight whistling noise on cold starts, but the mechanic checked and said its just normal engine sound for this model. At least all the major symptoms that brought me in are completely gone. Much better experience than my previous repair shop visit. Sharing my experience in case anyone else faces similar engine performance troubles. Getting the MAP sensor checked early definitely saved me from potential bigger problems down the road.
