VW Touareg Alarm System Failure Fix Guide

Latest service was completed at 107000km. The error code is B14772 and the alarm disarm function still works with the remote, but no sound is produced. No recent work was done on electrical systems. The issue appeared suddenly after heavy rain. I tried unplugging the battery for 30 minutes as suggested in the manual but this basic alarm reset did not resolve the problem. Good to hear your wiring issue was fixed at a reasonable cost. I was worried about needing a complete siren replacement which would cost significantly more. Before booking a workshop appointment, is there any way to verify if water damage is indeed causing the vehicle security system malfunction? I would like to avoid paying for unnecessary diagnostic fees if possible.

Thanks for those additional details, after reading about the error code B14772 and heavy rain timing, it sounds exactly like what happened with my Tiguan. The alarm controller likely suffered water intrusion through deteriorated seals. In my case, the siren unit itself was actually fine, but water had corroded the connection points. A security breach like this commonly occurs where the siren housing meets the body panel. You can do a basic check by inspecting the siren mounting area for: White/green corrosion around electrical contacts, Water stains or moisture inside the housing, Damaged rubber seals, Loose mounting points The fault detection system throwing that specific code strongly suggests connection issues rather than a failed siren. Since your remote still triggers the system but produces no sound, this further points to wiring problems versus a complete unit failure. Getting this diagnosed properly should cost around 50€. If it is indeed water damage to the wiring like mine was, expect total repairs to be under 100€. Much better than the 300-400€ typically charged for a full siren replacement. Would recommend having it checked soon though, continuing water exposure could lead to more extensive damage to the alarm controller and surrounding components.

Thanks for the detailed response and cost estimates. This gives me more confidence about the repair approach. From the symptoms and your experience, I am almost certain now that water damage is the culprit, especially given how the problem started right after that heavy rainfall. I checked the siren mounting area as suggested and found some whitish residue around the electrical contacts, which seems to confirm the corrosion theory. The wiring issue explanation makes perfect sense since the remote still works but produces no sound. I will schedule an appointment with my regular workshop next week and ask them to specifically check the connections and seals around the alarm controller area. Hoping to get it resolved within that 100€ range you mentioned rather than needing a complete automotive alarm system replacement. Will update the thread once I get the final diagnosis and repair completed in case others run into similar vehicle security problems after rain exposure. Really appreciate the guidance on narrowing down the fault detection to likely wiring problems rather than a failed siren unit.

Had a similar situation with my 2013 VW Tiguan 3.6 FSI. As someone with moderate experience working on VWs, I initially thought it was just a basic alarm reset issue, but it turned out to be more complex. The automotive alarm symptoms matched yours exactly, complete system failure with error codes. After trying basic troubleshooting, I took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed a wiring issue in the alarm system. Specifically, they found damaged cable connections to the siren unit. The repair involved replacing several corroded wire connections and properly sealing them to prevent future issues. Total cost was 95€ including diagnostics and repair. The vehicle security system has worked flawlessly since then. To provide more specific advice for your situation, could you share: The exact error code showing up, Whether you hear any sounds from the siren when arming/disarming, If there were any recent electrical work or battery replacements, If the problem started suddenly or developed gradually These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced with the wiring connections or if it might be something else in the alarm system circuit.
