Dealing with the same issue on my Tiguan right now. The release button stopped responding and my fuel door is stuck. Your description matches my symptoms exactly, even down to the error messages. Quick question, do you remember roughly what you paid for the complete repair? Also curious if the new release mechanism has worked properly since the fix or if youve had any repeat issues with the lock actuator? Would help me know what to expect at the shop.

Just had the repair done last week actually. The lock actuator and cable release system have been working flawlessly since the fix. The mechanic found the electrical linkage was completely worn out, which caused the fuel filler door to malfunction. Total cost came to 210€ for parts and labor. The repair included a new wiring harness and release mechanism. Money well spent since the release button now responds perfectly every time, and all those annoying dash error messages are gone. Really glad I got it sorted, no more struggles with the fuel door or worrying about getting stuck at gas stations. If your symptoms match what I experienced, you should find the repair resolves all the related issues completely.

Thanks for taking that advice. Took my Tiguan to a certified VW shop yesterday after seeing these responses. The diagnosis confirmed exactly what was described, failed wiring and a damaged release mechanism causing the electrical fault. The repair took about 2 hours. They replaced the entire fuel flap assembly and wiring harness. Total bill came to 230€, which seemed fair given the work involved. The release button now works perfectly, and all those dashboard error messages have cleared up. Best part is I can finally fill up without having to mess around with emergency releases or key fob tricks. Definitely worth fixing properly rather than trying cheaper temporary solutions that might have made things worse.

Had the same problem on my 2014 VW Passat TDI. The fuel filler door release button stopped working completely, causing similar error messages on the dash. The issue turned out to be a combination of a failed electrical connection and a damaged cable release mechanism. When the wiring harness deteriorates, it can trigger multiple electrical fault codes and affect other vehicle systems. The lock actuator itself was fine, but the entire fuel door assembly needed replacement due to internal linkage damage. The repair involved: Testing the electrical connections, Replacing the wiring harness to the fuel door, Installing a new release mechanism, Resetting the vehicle computer systems This was a serious repair that required specialized diagnostic equipment. The problem got worse over time and eventually prevented proper fuel cap engagement, which could trigger more warning lights and affect emissions systems. Best to address this promptly since a malfunctioning fuel filler door can lead to safety issues and potential fuel system problems. The key fob emergency release should still work as a temporary solution until repairs are completed.
