Hey, sure, I still have it in my head. Replacing the engine control unit cost me a total of €1000. Since I've been to the mechanic, the problems with the defective ignition coil or misfiring have been resolved. The Golf has been running great ever since and has had no further problems. I hope this helps you and keep your fingers crossed that your Tiguan will soon be running smoothly again! Best regards!

Hey, thanks for the info! It doesn't sound cheap, but if everything works afterwards, it's probably worth the investment. I also went to the mechanic today and told him about the symptoms. He made a diagnosis and found out that my engine control unit is probably also in trouble. He said that it was probably the electronics and made me an offer to replace and reprogram the unit. The price was similar to yours, i.e. around 1000 euros. I agreed and hope that it will be done soon and my Tiguan will be purring again. I'll keep you posted on how it turns out. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks again for the tips! Best regards!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2015 VW Golf. Almost identical symptoms: black smoke, check engine light, loss of power, rough engine, and intermittent idling. In my case, the engine control unit was ultimately defective. When I went to the garage, they first carried out a thorough diagnosis. The mechanic explained to me that the engine control unit is often responsible for such problems, as it is the central unit for engine control and monitoring. They removed the old control unit and installed a new one. Then, of course, the control unit had to be programmed for the vehicle. After this repair, my Golf ran like the first day again. Replacing the engine control unit is a serious matter, but it can be done and your car should run properly again afterwards. I would recommend you look for a workshop that specializes in VW, they know their stuff best. Good luck and hope your Tiguan runs smoothly again soon! Best regards.
