VW Taos Trans Warning: Fluid Change Could Be Key

Thanks for sharing your Tiguan experience. I hope its fixed now. Almost took my Taos to a repair shop when the transmission warning appeared last month. Before spending money on a transmission flush and diagnostics, I actually found out the battery terminals were corroded, causing voltage drops. After cleaning the terminals and checking all ground connections, the automatic transmission started working normally again. Did you remember the total repair cost for your transmission performance issues? Also curious if youve had any similar problems since the fix?

After getting my Tiguan fixed at the transmission specialist, the car has been running perfectly with no transmission performance issues. The total repair cost came to 240€, which covered fixing the undervoltage problem and preventive maintenance. The transmission oil replacement was essential since the diagnostic showed it was quite worn out. Since addressing both the electrical issue and refreshing the transmission fluid, the shifting has been smooth and consistent. The automatic transmission warning hasnt appeared again in over 8000km of driving. Good catch on checking your battery terminals first. Voltage-related problems can definitely trick the transmission control module into thinking theres a serious transmission fault. Its always smart to check the simple fixes before diving into major repairs.

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear your transmission issues were resolved. My story turned out quite different than expected. After noticing the transmission warning light, I initially panicked and called several repair shops for quotes on transmission diagnostics. Most wanted around 180€ just to look at it. Before booking an appointment, I decided to check some basic things. Found heavy corrosion on the battery terminals that was causing the car to get insufficient power. After a thorough cleaning of the connections and applying some dielectric grease, the transmission warning disappeared completely. The hydraulic fluid levels were fine, and the transmission performance returned to normal. Saved myself a costly repair bill and learned to always check the simple things first. The automatic transmission has been shifting perfectly for the past month with no warning lights. Will definitely keep an eye on those battery connections going forward.

Had a similar issue on my 2020 VW Tiguan with the automatic gearbox. The transmission warning and erratic shifting turned out to be related to undervoltage in the transmission control module. The automatic transmission was going into limp mode as a protective measure. Initially thought it was just old transmission oil, but the diagnostic revealed the real culprit. The repair involved: Testing the transmission control module, Replacing the voltage regulator, Full automatic transmission oil replacement as preventive maintenance, Resetting the transmission control unit This was a significant repair that required specialized diagnostic equipment. The transmission symptoms you describe match exactly what happened with my car, irregular shift patterns and warning lights. The emergency mode is the transmission protecting itself from potential damage. The problem needs proper diagnosis from a transmission specialist. These symptoms should not be ignored as they can lead to more severe automatic gearbox damage if left unaddressed. While transmission oil condition can cause similar issues, the warning light typically indicates an electrical or mechanical fault that requires professional attention.
