VW T-Roc AC Dead After Engine Service Visit

Thanks for sharing your experience. My T-Roc had the exact same symptoms last summer, total AC shutdown right after routine service. The temperature control system was completely unresponsive, just like yours. After troubleshooting, it turned out my AC relay was fried and caused the whole system to fail. The mechanic also found a refrigerant leak while checking everything. Was surprised this happened with relatively low mileage. Just curious, do you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? Also, has the AC been working properly since the fix? Mine has been running fine for 6 months now, but I keep monitoring for any unusual AC noise or cooling issues.

After getting everything fixed at the shop my AC system has been working flawlessly for over a year now. No more AC noise or efficiency problems that plagued it before. The total repair came to 1000€ for replacing several faulty valves in the AC system. Initially they also suspected a refrigerant leak but the real culprit was those defective valves disrupting proper flow. The blower motor and other components checked out fine during testing. While it was an expensive fix, having properly functioning climate control was worth the investment. The AC now cools quickly and maintains consistent temperature without any issues. Regular maintenance checks show the system is holding pressure perfectly with no leaks or performance problems. Good to hear yours has been reliable for 6 months. Continue monitoring but chances are if no issues have shown up by now, the repair was successful. These VW AC systems tend to work great once the underlying problems are properly diagnosed and fixed.

I took my T-Roc to the shop last summer since it was showing identical symptoms. The total AC shutdown happened right after they did some basic engine maintenance. Figured it might be connected but wasnt sure how. The mechanic found the AC relay had completely failed, which explained why nothing responded when trying to use the climate controls. While checking the cooling system they also discovered a slow refrigerant leak that needed fixing. The full repair cost me 850€ and took about 4 hours to complete. The mechanic said these issues sometimes pop up on VWs around my mileage, even though it seemed early. They had to evacuate and recharge the whole system after fixing the leak. Since the repair my AC has been working perfectly, cold air comes out strong and the temperature control works like new. No weird noises or cooling problems in the last 6 months. Pretty relieved it wasnt something more serious with the compressor or condenser. Still keeping an eye on the AC efficiency just to be safe, but seems like they got everything sorted out properly. The cooling system has been holding pressure well according to their latest check.

Had a similar issue with my 2015 VW Golf 1.4 TSI. The AC system shutdown turned out to be more than just a refrigerant leak. The AC stopped functioning after routine engine maintenance. The pressure switch had failed, preventing the system from activating. Additionally, the blower motor was not receiving proper signals due to a faulty AC relay. These components often wear out around the 100000km mark. The garage diagnostics revealed that one of the expansion valves was stuck, blocking proper refrigerant flow. This was a serious issue requiring component replacement since a stuck valve can damage other parts of the AC system if left unchecked. Main repairs needed: Replacement of faulty pressure switch, New AC relay installation, Expansion valve replacement, System evacuation and recharge Beyond basic AC maintenance, this type of repair requires specialized equipment and expertise. Worth noting that when the AC completely stops rather than gradually losing cooling power, its typically an electrical or mechanical component failure rather than just a refrigerant leak. The symptoms match your situation, complete shutdown without warning lights, happening after engine work. Recommend having the pressure switch and relay checked first before investigating mechanical components.
