VW T-Cross Immobilizer Fault Causing No-Start Issues

Thanks for checking my issue. My car was last serviced at 65000km just 2 months ago. The remote start system began acting up shortly after that service. To answer your questions: Using original key since new, Problems started 3 weeks ago, Security light flashes along with check engine, Fault code shows P1632 The strange part is the anti-theft system seems to trigger out of nowhere, not every time I try to start the car. Sometimes it works perfectly fine for days, then suddenly the immobilizer fault appears again. I will probably need to get it checked professionally, but wanted to confirm if this matches what others have experienced.

Based on your symptoms and fault code P1632, this definitely sounds like a similar immobilizer system issue to what I experienced, particularly with the unusual activation pattern. However, the timing after your service suggests an additional factor worth investigating. After dealing with my own T-Roc immobilizer fault, I learned that sometimes connector pins in the key signal receiver can get loose or corroded. Since your issues started post-service, its possible something got disturbed during maintenance work. In my case, before the key reprogramming fixed it, I also experienced that intermittent behavior where the security light would flash out of nowhere. The anti-theft system would work fine for a while, then suddenly trigger without warning. The fault code P1632 typically indicates communication problems between the key and immobilizer control module. While my issue was resolved with reprogramming, given your car was recently serviced, I recommend having them check: Key signal receiver connections, Immobilizer antenna ring around ignition, Ground connections to the immobilizer module Best to take it back to the service center since this started after their work. They should cover diagnosis costs if the immobilizer bypass system was affected during service.

Thanks for the input. I called the service center and they confirmed the fault code P1632 is likely related to the car immobilizer system. They want to check the connections first since the security light started flashing after their recent work. Going to bring it in tomorrow morning. Will update once they diagnose whether its just loose connections or if the ignition control module needs reprogramming. The intermittent nature of the problem makes sense now, especially how the anti-theft system activates out of nowhere. Hopefully its just disturbed wiring from the service and not a full immobilizer fault requiring key reprogramming. The quoted diagnostic fee is 85€ which seems reasonable to finally sort this out. Really appreciate all the feedback. It helped me better understand the issue and have a more informed discussion with the workshop.

I had a similar immobilizer fault on my 2021 T-Roc, which shares many electronic components with your T-Cross. I have moderate experience working on car electronics and immobilizer systems. The symptoms were exactly as you describe, starting issues and immediate stalling, with the immobilizer light staying on. After some troubleshooting, it turned out the key programming was incorrect, causing the anti-theft system to activate out of nowhere. Took it to an authorized workshop where they reprogrammed the key to properly communicate with the car immobilizer. Total cost was 45€ and it fixed the issue completely. No problems since then. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Do you have the original key or a replacement? When did these symptoms first appear? Are there any other warning lights besides check engine? Can you share the specific fault codes stored? This information would help determine if your issue is identical to what I experienced or if there might be other factors involved in your immobilizer system malfunction.
