VW Suran Headlight Switch Malfunction Fix Needed

Thanks for sharing your experience with the lighting circuit repair. The symptoms definitely sound identical to what I encountered. The corroded wiring was definitely a safety risk. Just curious, would you mind sharing what the final repair cost was? Also wondering if youve had any lingering issues with the headlight switch or dimmer switch since the fix? My mechanic is quoting a fairly wide price range and Id like to know what to expect. Im also noticing some flickering from the tail lights occasionally, similar to what you mentioned. Did replacing the wiring fully resolve that issue or were additional repairs needed near the fuse box area?

After having the headlight switch issue properly diagnosed and repaired last month, I can report everything is working perfectly now. The intermittent lighting problems and dashboard lights errors are completely gone. The final cost was 95€ for fixing the faulty cable connections near the dimmer switch assembly. This included cleaning and securing all electrical contacts, plus testing the entire lighting circuit. Much more reasonable than initial quotes Id received elsewhere. The tail light flickering disappeared completely once they addressed the loose wiring connections. No additional fuse box repairs were needed, the problem was isolated to the main switch wiring harness. No recurring electrical problems since the repair. The headlight switch, dimmer controls, and all lighting functions are operating normally. The key was finding a technician who properly diagnosed the connection issue rather than jumping to replace entire components.

Thanks for the detailed follow-up. I finally got my car fixed last week and wanted to share the outcome. Took your advice and found a shop that specialized in electrical problems. They did a thorough diagnostic of the entire lighting system first. Just like your case, they discovered corroded wiring connections, but mine were tucked behind the dashboard lights assembly. The repair cost came to 120€, slightly more than yours but still reasonable. They cleaned all connections, replaced some worn wiring, and recalibrated the automotive switch system. The car lighting works perfectly now, no more unusual activation or error codes. The tail lights stopped flickering too. Really glad I insisted on a complete circuit check instead of just replacing the headlight switch like the first shop suggested. Saved money and got the actual problem fixed.

Had the same electrical problem with my 2012 VW CrossFox last winter. The erratic car lighting behavior matched your symptoms exactly, unusual activation and error codes. After initial misdiagnosis focusing on the light switch itself, the real issue turned out to be corroded wiring connectors near the fuse box. The cables connecting the main lighting control module had deteriorated, causing intermittent contact. The repair involved: Complete testing of the lighting circuit, Cleaning all connector points, Replacing damaged wiring sections, Installing new protective covering, Reprogramming the lighting control module This was a serious electrical issue that could have led to complete lighting failure if left unaddressed. The tail lights were also affected since they share the same control circuit. Key advice: Make sure the technician checks the entire wiring path between the switch and control module, not just the switch unit. Insist on a complete diagnostic of the lighting system before any parts replacement.
