Thanks for sharing your experience. Your diagnosis matches what I experienced with my 2008 Sharan last winter. When the hall sensor signals started acting up, the tailgate motor would also struggle to complete the opening sequence. The wire harness connecting to the tailgate control unit was indeed the culprit in my case. Once the sensor wiring was properly secured and the connections cleaned up, the system worked perfectly again. Do you recall roughly how much the repair cost in your case? Did any other electrical gremlins pop up afterwards? Always good to know what to watch out for with these sensor systems.

Had the Touran back to the mechanic last week actually. The tailgate hall sensor fault was completely resolved after fixing a faulty cable connection. Total cost came to 95€ for the repair, which included cleaning and securing all the electrical sensor connections. No other electrical issues have surfaced since the fix. The tailgate motor now operates smoothly and the vehicle sensor system maintains proper calibration. These tailgate control units are quite reliable once the wiring connections are properly sorted. Just make sure your mechanic thoroughly tests the hall sensor signals after any repair. A proper electrical sensor diagnostic can prevent future problems with the system.

Got my Sharan back from the shop yesterday. The repair matched exactly what you described, loose wiring near the power tailgate motor was causing the sensor calibration issues. Cost was slightly higher at 120€ since they had to replace a corroded connector. The automatic tailgate now opens smoothly and the warning light has disappeared. The mechanic showed me the diagnostic readings before and after, quite impressive how the sensor values normalized once they fixed the connection. Really glad I got this sorted quickly. The open tailgate function works perfectly now and no other electrical issues have appeared. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with the wiring check. Saved me from replacing unnecessary parts.

Had a similar issue with my 2011 VW Touran TDI. The power tailgate system stopped functioning correctly after routine maintenance. The automatic tailgate would only open partially and the warning light remained illuminated. The electrical sensor connection near the tailgate motor had become loose during previous work. A faulty ground wire and corroded plug were causing intermittent signals. This affected both the open tailgate function and position calibration. The fix required: Complete recalibration of the vehicle sensor system, Replacement of damaged wiring connector, Cleaning and reseating all electrical connections, Testing proper tailgate motor operation While not a major mechanical issue, the electrical problems can worsen if left unaddressed. The power tailgate motors are sensitive to proper voltage and signal input. Would recommend having the connections inspected and sensor calibration verified. Most modern diagnostic tools can read the exact fault codes from the tailgate control module. This type of issue commonly occurs when wiring gets disturbed during other maintenance work. The vehicle sensor system needs proper electrical continuity to function correctly.
