VW Sharan Oil Sensor Alert After Mechanic Service

After my last mechanic visit, I am getting multiple alerts in my VW Sharan 2011 Diesel (134409km). The oil gauge shows a warning light and the oil pressure warning lamp is on. The error memory shows a fault related to the automotive oil monitoring system. My research points to a possible oil detection sensor issue. Has anyone experienced similar problems with their oil level sensor? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for advice before visiting a mechanic again.

Had the same issue with a VW Touran 2014 Diesel. The oil signal warnings started appearing right after routine maintenance. The engine oil pressure warning combined with sensor alerts typically indicates either a failing oil sensor or connection problems. In my case, the oil monitoring system showed false readings because of a damaged wiring harness near the oil detection unit. The connector had corroded and lost proper contact. The mechanic found the issue during diagnostics, the oil sensor itself was functioning correctly, but the electrical connection was compromised. This is not a critical safety concern if your actual oil levels are good, but requires attention since the oil monitoring system is part of the engine protection features. The repair involved cleaning the connector pins and replacing the damaged section of the wiring harness. Before going to a mechanic, check your engine oil level manually with the dipstick. If oil level is normal but warnings persist, its likely an electrical issue with the oil sensor system rather than an actual oil pressure problem. Would recommend getting it checked soon, faulty oil pressure readings can mask real issues if they develop later. The repair is straightforward for an experienced VW technician who knows where to look for common oil sensor connection failures.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the oil sensor issue. My mechanic also found it was the wiring harness causing false oil signal warnings, just like in your case. Its been about 6 months since the repair and the oil monitoring system has worked perfectly since then, with no more unusual alerts. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was? Curious if it was similar to what I paid. Also, have you noticed any other sensor issues cropping up since getting it fixed?

Since getting the faulty oil level sensor fixed at the shop, my car's oil monitoring has worked flawlessly. The mechanic found a loose connection in the wiring that was causing the automotive oil warning signals. Total cost was 95€ to repair the damaged cable and connector, pretty straightforward fix. The oil detection system has been completely reliable for the past year with no other sensor problems showing up. Regular car maintenance checks show everything is working as it should. It was worth getting it properly diagnosed and repaired rather than ignoring those initial warning lights. Having accurate oil signal readings is crucial for proper engine protection.

I visited my mechanic last week to get the oil sensor issue sorted out. The repair was actually simpler than expected. Total cost came to 120€ which covered diagnosing the faulty sensor connection and replacing a section of corroded wiring harness. The automotive oil monitoring system works perfectly now. All those annoying warning lights have disappeared and the oil gauge readings are stable. My mechanic mentioned these electrical issues with oil sensors are fairly common in VWs of our age, so the repair process was routine for them. Really glad I got it fixed properly instead of continuing to worry about those false warnings. Six months later and the car maintenance records show everything running smoothly with no other sensor problems popping up.
