VW Sharan Diesel Filter Issues Causing Power Loss

Thanks for the input. My Sharan had its latest service 4 months ago at 60000km. The symptoms started about 2 weeks ago, and I mainly do long-distance highway driving. Our workshop attempted forced DPF cleaning through regeneration last week but it only helped temporarily. The engine light came back on after 3 days and the power loss returned. The sensor fault codes keep appearing despite clearing them. Based on your repair costs, I should probably budget around 1500€ for a complete diesel filter replacement. Good to know it solved similar issues permanently in your case.

Thanks for those additional details. Since our cars are similar, I can better relate to your situation now. After my Touran went through temporary improvements with regeneration like yours, it turned out delaying the filter replacement only made things worse. The recurring sensor fault codes combined with failed regeneration attempts strongly suggest your DPF has reached its end of life, just like mine did. The highway driving should actually help with natural regeneration, so if the system still cannot maintain proper function, the filter is likely physically degraded. My repair cost estimate of 1550€ seems relevant for your case, and you are wise to budget around that figure. The workshop will likely need to: Replace the main filter unit, Check and possibly replace related sensors, Perform a full system reset, Validate proper backpressure readings One tip from my experience: request a backpressure test before and after the repair. This gives you clear documentation that the new filter replacement resolved the underlying issue and is functioning correctly. Since this repair resolved my issues completely, I would recommend not delaying the repair too long, as continued driving with a failing DPF can impact overall fuel efficiency and potentially cause additional engine stress.

Thank you for the thorough explanation and sharing your Touran repair experience. The similar symptoms and failed regeneration attempts on my Sharan do point towards needing a complete filter replacement rather than further regeneration attempts. I will schedule the repair next week and ask for the backpressure testing you suggested. The exhaust system symptoms are getting worse, and I do not want to risk additional engine damage by postponing the repair. The 1500€ budget seems realistic based on your breakdown. At least the repair should improve fuel efficiency and resolve the constant engine light warnings. Good to hear the fix was permanent in your case, hoping for similar results with my Sharan once the new filter is installed. I will request detailed documentation of all sensor readings and tests. This should help track the exhaust system performance after the filter replacement and catch any potential issues early.

I had a similar issue with my VW Touran 2.0 TDI from 2015. Having some experience with diesel engines, I recognized these classic symptoms of a clogged diesel particulate filter right away. The workshop first ran a diagnostic scan showing multiple sensor fault codes related to backpressure. They confirmed the DPF was completely blocked and regeneration attempts were unsuccessful. The reduced engine power and smoke were clear indicators the filter needed replacement. The complete repair took 2 days and cost me 1550€, including: New diesel filter unit, Pressure sensors, Installation labor, System reset and testing This resolved the power loss and improved fuel efficiency significantly. The engine light turned off and has stayed off since. To provide more specific advice for your case, could you share: Build year of your Sharan, Current mileage, Type of driving (mostly city or highway), How long the symptoms have been present, Whether any regeneration attempts were made before This information would help determine if you might still have regeneration options available before needing a full replacement.
