Thanks for sharing your experience. After reading your response, I just got my steering angle sensor replaced during my service last week. The issue seems similar to yours, though my mechanic noticed the electronic stability control was also affected. Still monitoring if further calibration is needed since the yaw rate readings seem a bit off during sharp turns. The workshop charged 480€ for parts and labor, which feels reasonable given the diagnostic work needed. Getting a wheel alignment done next week to ensure everything is properly set. Will update once I have more driving experience with the fix.

Good to hear you got the steering angle sensor replaced. The cost seems reasonable compared to what I paid for my Touran repair. The link between steering angle and yaw rate sensors is crucial for vehicle stability, so monitoring the performance after repairs is smart. Since you mentioned the electronic stability seems affected, make sure the workshop checks the complete sensor network. In my case, the traction control system needed a full recalibration after the sensor replacement to work properly. The initial fix only partially solved the issue until they performed this additional step. After my wheel alignment, it took about 200km of normal driving for all systems to fully adapt. Watch out for any unusual behavior, especially during cornering or lane changes. The electronic stability system should engage smoothly without jerky corrections. Keep tracking how it performs in different conditions. If you notice any remaining issues with the ABS or stability control, getting those yaw rate readings checked again might be worth it. Sometimes these systems need fine-tuning even after the main repair is done.

Good to hear back from you all. Just wanted to share a quick update on my Sharan. After 2 weeks of driving, the new steering angle sensor has definitely improved things. The safety warning lights have stayed off and the electronic control systems are working much better. The wheel alignment really made a difference. The lateral sensor and traction control are now working together properly, no more strange behavior in corners. My mechanic did a final diagnostic scan yesterday and confirmed all readings are normal. The total investment of 480€ plus alignment costs was worth it for the improved handling stability. Only notice a tiny pull to the left during hard braking, but that might just need a bit more time for the systems to fully adapt. Will keep monitoring but so far pretty happy with how the repair turned out. Thanks again for the helpful advice about checking the complete sensor network, it really helped guide the repair process.

I had a similar issue on my 2009 VW Touran diesel last year. With some experience working on VAG vehicles, I can share what worked in my case. The constant ABS warning light was also accompanied by traction control system failures. After initial diagnosis, the workshop found the steering angle sensor and control unit were sending incorrect signals. The electronic control module was receiving faulty data about the yaw rate, which affected both ABS and stability systems. The fix required: Complete diagnostic scan, Replacement of the ABS control unit, Recalibration of steering angle sensors, Testing of wheel speed sensors, Full wheel alignment check Total cost was around 1000€, but it completely resolved the issue. The car has been running perfectly since, with no warning lights. To provide more specific advice for your Sharan: What error codes are you getting? Are you experiencing any handling issues? Does the problem occur more in wet conditions? Have you noticed any unusual noises from the wheel hubs? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I encountered. The lateral sensor often works together with other components, so a thorough diagnosis is essential before replacing parts.
