Thanks for sharing that detailed experience with the GTI. I recently faced almost identical issues with my Scirocco, the rough running, stalling and check engine light. Turned out my throttle body was severely contaminated, affecting the air-fuel ratio, plus one oxygen sensor had completely failed. Did the problems stay fixed after your repair? Also curious what the total cost was since I am still waiting for my final invoice. My initial quote seemed quite high.

Since getting the repairs done, my Golf GTI has been running perfectly. The mixture preparation error was completely resolved after replacing the faulty injection valve. The repair bill came to 515€, which included parts and labor. The proper air-fuel ratio was restored once the new injector was installed and calibrated. The check engine light hasnt returned, and the engine maintains steady power without any hesitation or stalling. The fuel injection system is now working as intended, with no more rich mixture issues. Looking back, it was worth every cent since running with a defective injector could have caused much more expensive damage to other engine components. Regular maintenance checks of the fuel system help prevent these issues from recurring. Your quote might seem high, but if the throttle body cleaning and oxygen sensor replacement are included, its probably in a reasonable range based on my experience.

The Scirocco is now running great after getting it properly diagnosed and fixed. The mechanic found that the throttle body needed a thorough cleaning and the faulty oxygen sensor was causing the rich mixture problem. Total repair came to 680€, which included: Complete throttle body cleaning and calibration, New oxygen sensor installation, Diagnostic testing, Labor costs The shop took about 6 hours to complete everything. Initial start-up was smooth, and after a test drive, all the previous symptoms were gone, no more jerking during acceleration or stalling. The check engine light cleared and hasnt come back. The intake manifold was inspected and surprisingly clean, so no additional work was needed there. The spark plugs were also checked and showed normal wear. The fuel injection system is now working correctly with proper air-fuel ratios. While the bill was higher than expected, the car runs like new again. Will definitely keep up with regular maintenance to avoid similar issues in the future.

Had similar symptoms with my 2011 VW Golf GTI. The check engine light came on, accompanied by power loss and rough idling. The mass airflow sensor readings were off, leading to incorrect air-fuel ratio calculations. Initial diagnosis revealed multiple issues. The primary problem was a faulty fuel injector that was stuck partially open, causing excess fuel delivery. This created rich mixture conditions and triggered the oxygen sensor to report incorrect values. The intake manifold had carbon buildup, making the situation worse. The repair required: Replacing the defective fuel injector, Cleaning the intake manifold, Recalibrating the fuel injection system, Clearing fault codes This was a serious issue that needed immediate attention. Continuing to drive with faulty injectors risks damaging the catalytic converter and could lead to complete engine failure. The repair took two full days at the shop, mainly due to the thorough intake system cleaning required. After the fix, the engine performance returned to normal, with smooth acceleration and proper idling. Regular fuel injector cleaning service is now part of my maintenance schedule to prevent similar issues.
