VW Scirocco Oil Pressure Crisis: Urgent Repair Needed

Thanks for sharing your Golf experience, it really helps since I am worried about my Scirocco showing similar symptoms. Did you remember how much the full repair ended up costing? The oil pressure gauge is still acting up on mine despite the new oil pressure sensor, and I am getting concerned about potential engine oil starvation causing more damage like in your case. Have any other issues come up since the repair was done? Just trying to budget for what might be ahead and wondering if the fix was permanent for you.

After getting the repair done on my Golf, the engine oil pressure issues were completely resolved. The mechanic found a defect in the oil pump that was causing inadequate lubrication, exactly the same symptoms you are describing. The total repair came to 755€, which included replacing the faulty oil pump, system flush, and fresh oil change with a new filter. I have had zero oil pressure problems since the repair was completed over a year ago. The engine runs smoothly now without any concerning noises. The oil leakage that was occurring around the pump housing also stopped completely. Looking back, replacing just the sensor was a waste of time and money. When oil pressure warnings persist after a sensor replacement, its almost always pointing to oil pump failure. Getting this fixed properly prevented what could have been catastrophic engine damage from oil starvation. My advice would be to have it checked immediately before the low oil pressure causes the same bearing damage I experienced. The repair cost is significant, but much less expensive than replacing an entire engine.

I finally got the issue sorted with my Scirocco. After getting a second opinion, the mechanic confirmed serious problems with the oil pump, just like your case. The engine bearings were starting to show wear from insufficient oil pressure. The total repair bill came to 890€, covering: New oil pump, Engine bearing replacement, Complete oil system flush, Fresh engine oil and filter change The shop documented everything and showed me the worn parts. The old oil pump was definitely the culprit, it was severely degraded and not maintaining proper pressure. My first mechanic completely missed this when they just replaced the oil pressure sensor. The engine now runs perfectly quiet, no more warning lights, and oil pressure is steady. Wish I had caught it sooner, but thankful I avoided complete engine failure. Really appreciate the advice about getting that second opinion, it probably saved me from much bigger problems down the road.

Had the exact same issue on my 2013 VW Golf TDI. The engine noise combined with oil pressure warnings pointed to oil pump failure. Initially, the local shop replaced just the oil pressure sensor, but the problem persisted. The bearings showed severe wear when they finally opened up the engine. The oil pump had failed to maintain proper pressure, starving critical engine components of lubrication. This caused significant damage to the main bearings and crankshaft journals. The repair required: New oil pump installation, Complete bearing replacement, Oil system flush, Fresh engine oil with correct viscosity, New oil filter This was a serious issue requiring immediate attention. Continuing to drive with low oil pressure can lead to catastrophic engine failure. Your symptoms match my experience exactly, the loud noises were the bearings starting to fail due to insufficient lubrication. Strongly recommend getting a second opinion from a shop specializing in VW engines. They should perform a proper oil pressure test to determine if its truly the pump or just the sensor.
