VW Scirocco Fuel Door Lock Failure + Electrical Glitches

Thanks for sharing that experience. Had my Scirocco fixed for a very similar issue last month. The fuel door was completely stuck and the electrical gremlins were driving me crazy. After reading your post, I am wondering if I should get it checked again since my cable release is still a bit stiff when using the emergency latch. Did the fix solve all your electrical problems completely? And if you do not mind sharing, what was the total repair cost? Just want to make sure I was not overcharged and that I should not expect any more issues popping up.

Got my issues fully resolved after that repair, the fuel filler access and electrical faults were completely fixed. The cable release works smoothly now with no stiffness in the emergency mechanism. Unlike your situation, my release button now operates perfectly every time. The repair cost came to 210€ for fixing the defective linkage and associated electrical components. Worth every cent since the repair addressed all the electrical gremlins that were showing up. The fuel door release mechanism has worked flawlessly for months now. If your emergency latch still feels stiff, might be worth having the release button and cable system checked again. These components should operate smoothly when properly repaired. Sometimes residual stiffness can indicate the repair was not fully complete or there might be remaining issues with the linkage.

Finally got everything sorted with my Scirocco. After reading about similar experiences, I took it back to a different mechanic who specialized in VW electrical systems. Good call because they found the cable release mechanism needed adjustment and discovered a loose connection in the fuel flap wiring harness that the first shop missed. Total bill came to 180€ which included fixing both the wiring and adjusting the release mechanism. Much better than the 350€ the first shop charged for their incomplete fix. The fuel door now opens perfectly every time, all electrical faults have cleared, and the emergency release works smoothly without any stiffness. Really glad I got a second opinion instead of living with that stiff emergency latch. Car has been running great for the past few weeks with no electrical fault codes showing up.

Had similar problems on my 2011 VW Golf GTI. The fuel flap release mechanism completely failed after the lock actuator started acting erratically. Initially thought it was just the key fob having issues since other electrical functions were also inconsistent. Turned out the problem was more complex, the entire wiring harness connecting the fuel door system had corroded, affecting multiple electrical components. When the lock actuator fails, it often indicates broader electrical issues, especially in these VW models from that generation. The repair required replacing both the lock actuator and rewiring the fuel flap assembly. This was definitely a serious repair job since accessing the wiring meant removing multiple interior panels. The symptoms you describe, multiple electrical issues combined with fuel door problems, strongly suggest you might be facing similar underlying wiring problems rather than just a faulty actuator. Would recommend having a thorough electrical diagnostic done, focusing specifically on the wiring around the fuel door area. These issues tend to worsen if left unaddressed and can affect other electrical systems in the car.
