VW Scirocco Coil Pack Failure Causes Rough Running

Thanks for sharing that, sounds exactly like what my Scirocco was doing last year. The engine hesitation and stalling were really worrying me too. Ended up having similar work done with the coil packs and spark plugs. The vehicle diagnostics confirmed it was causing misfires just like in your case. Did you remember roughly what the total repair cost came to? Also curious if youve had any other ignition issues pop up since getting it fixed?

Happy to report I havent experienced any ignition system problems since getting the repair done. The misfire issues and engine stalling completely stopped after they fixed the defective ignition coil. The total came to 95€ which covered diagnosing and repairing the faulty cable connection on the coil pack. This was actually less expensive than expected since they only needed to fix the connection rather than replace the entire component. The mechanic also checked all other coil packs and spark plugs while they had it apart. Everything else tested fine, with no signs of uneven wear or pending failures. The engine has been running smoothly with no rough idle or acceleration problems since the repair. Based on what you described about your Scirocco, sounds like you had very similar coil pack symptoms. These ignition system issues tend to show common warning signs across VW models when components start failing.

Took my Scirocco to a trusted mechanic after getting that helpful advice. The repair was surprisingly quick, they diagnosed and fixed the coil pack issue in under 2 hours. Total cost came to 320€ for replacing two ignition coils and all spark plugs. Really glad I addressed it when I did. The mechanic showed me how the old coil packs were deteriorated and causing the misfires. No wonder the engine was running so rough. The check engine light cleared right after the repair and the car runs perfectly smooth now, no more stalling or jerky acceleration. For anyone else dealing with similar ignition system problems, getting it checked early definitely saved me from bigger issues down the road. The engine feels like new again.

Had identical symptoms on a 2013 VW Golf GTI. The rough running and stalling were classic signs of coil pack failure, which was affecting the ignition system performance. The diagnosis revealed two faulty coil packs that were causing misfires, leading to the jerky acceleration. When the spark plugs were inspected, they showed uneven wear patterns due to the inconsistent spark delivery. The check engine light was triggered by these misfiring cylinders. This is a relatively common issue on these engines. The repair involved: Testing all coil packs, Replacing two failed coil packs, Installing new spark plugs, Clearing fault codes The fix was straightforward but essential, driving with failing coil packs can damage the catalytic converter if left unchecked. After replacement, the engine ran smoothly with no more stalling or rough idle. Would recommend having all coil packs tested rather than just replacing the obviously failed ones. Often when one fails, others are close to failing too.
