VW Nivus Key Fob & Central Locking System Failure

Having issues with my 2021 VW Nivus key fob system. The door locks stopped responding completely, cannot lock or unlock any doors using the remote or central locking button. The security system shows an error message on the dashboard. Already checked and replaced the key fob battery but no change. Has anyone encountered similar problems with their central locking? Particularly interested in what the repair shop found and fixed in your case. Also wondering if this could be related to the fuse box or if its more likely a control module issue. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences.

I had almost the exact same issue with my 2019 VW T-Cross. Having some experience with VW electrical systems, I initially thought it was just a key fob problem, but it turned out to be more complex. After the remote locking system failed completely, I took it to my regular workshop. They diagnosed a faulty wiring connection between the central locking control module and the main security system. The problem was a damaged cable harness connector that had developed corrosion over time. The repair involved cleaning the connector points and replacing part of the wiring harness. Total cost was 95€ including diagnostic time. Since the fix, the car alarm and central locking have worked flawlessly. Before suggesting specific solutions for your Nivus, could you share: Does the manual key still work in the driver door? Are you getting any specific error codes? Did this start suddenly or gradually get worse? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? These details would help determine if your issue is similar to what I experienced or if it might be something different in the key fob or security system components.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Nivus has 23364km and was last serviced 2 months ago. To answer your questions: The manual key works fine in the driver door lock. The central locking system shows error code U0415 on the diagnostic scanner. The problem started suddenly after heavy rain last week. No other electrical issues noticed. The keyless entry system had been working perfectly until now. What concerns me is that neither the interior central locking button nor the key fob functions work at all. The security system warning light stays on constantly. Considering your experience with the wiring harness, I wonder if water might have damaged the locking mechanism connections in my case too. Planning to have it checked at the shop soon, but wanted to gather some insights from other owners first.

Good to hear back about those details. The error code U0415 typically indicates a communication fault between modules, which aligns with what I experienced in my T-Cross. Since yours started after heavy rain and presents similar symptoms to my case, water intrusion affecting the wiring harness seems likely. The fact that your manual key works but both the central locking and keyless entry are non-functional points strongly to a wiring or module connection issue rather than a mechanical problem. In my repair, they found water had seeped through a damaged grommet near the driver door, causing corrosion in the wiring connector. Before you take it to the shop, check if there is any visible moisture in the driver door panel or around the central locking module area. My repair bill was relatively low at 95€ because they caught it before extensive corrosion developed. If left unchecked, moisture can spread through the wiring harness and cause more expensive damage to the security system components. Given your car is newer than mine and recently serviced, this should be a straightforward fix similar to what I had done. Just make sure they thoroughly check and seal any potential water entry points to prevent future issues with the central locking system.

Thanks for all the detailed responses. Just wanted to update that I took my Nivus to the shop yesterday. They confirmed water damage in the wiring harness connector, exactly as suggested. Also found a torn rubber seal that was letting moisture into the locking mechanism assembly. The repair cost came to 120€ including parts and labor. They replaced the damaged section of the wiring harness, installed a new door seal, and reprogrammed the security system. The keyless entry and central locking buttons are now working perfectly again. They also applied some additional sealant around potential water entry points to prevent future issues. Good thing I got it checked quickly before the corrosion could spread further through the electrical system. Really appreciate the helpful advice about checking for water damage. Having the error code and knowing about similar experiences helped the technicians diagnose the problem faster. Hopefully this information helps other VW owners who encounter similar remote locking issues after rain exposure.
