Last service was at 35000km, currently showing 40969km. Thanks for the detailed response. My Nivus has the top trim package. Manual release cable was the first thing I tried, no luck there either. Completely stuck. Based on your experience, it sounds like I am dealing with the same lock actuator failure. The error message and restricted functions match exactly what you described. Good to know the repair time is relatively quick. Will schedule a workshop visit to get the fuel filler mechanism replaced. The 210€ cost seems reasonable considering the complete unit needs replacement. Have you experienced any similar electrical faults since getting the new actuator installed?

Thanks for the update on your Nivus. Since having the fuel flap release mechanism replaced on my T-Roc, the system has worked flawlessly for over a year now. No electrical faults or issues with the new actuator. Your mileage is quite similar to when my issue occurred (around 42000km). The symptoms match perfectly, unresponsive release button, failed manual cable release, and the system throwing electrical fault codes. The replacement unit they installed uses an improved electric actuator design that seems more durable than the original. Just make sure the workshop uses genuine parts for the fuel door mechanism, as aftermarket alternatives might not be as reliable. Important update: the restricted functions should return to normal immediately after the repair. If they dont, have the workshop clear any stored error codes from the system.

The lock actuator issue is definitely resolved then, appreciate you sharing your long-term experience with the repair. Good to hear there havent been any recurring electrical faults with the new unit. My Nivus is booked in for next week. Asked specifically for OEM parts for the fuel flap mechanism since I want to avoid any future problems. The workshop confirmed they can clear all error codes after installing the new release mechanism. Thanks for confirming the repair cost and timeline. Really helped having detailed info from someone who went through the exact same fuel filler issue. Will update the thread once its fixed in case other owners run into similar lock actuator problems with their VWs.

Had the exact same issue on my 2018 VW T-Roc last winter. As someone with some hands-on experience working on VWs, I first checked the cable release mechanism, but that wasnt the problem. Turned out the lock actuator had failed completely, causing the fuel flap to stay locked. The error message appeared because the system constantly tried to operate the faulty actuator. The release button inside the car became completely unresponsive. Took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a defective linkage in the lock actuator assembly. They had to replace the entire fuel flap release mechanism unit. Total repair cost was 210€ including parts and labor. The job took about 2 hours. This seems to be a known issue with some VW models from that generation. What trim level is your Nivus? Also, does the manual release cable work when you pull it? This information would help determine if youre facing the same problem. The sooner you get it fixed, the better, as restricted vehicle functions can affect other systems over time.
