VW Nivus Audio System Completely Dead, Owner's Alert

Currently at 146653km and experiencing this sound system failure since the last service. After trying your suggested checks for faulty wiring and testing all dashboard controls, I discovered the Bluetooth problem persists even after multiple system restarts. The display works fine and all other functions respond normally, its strictly an audio issue with constant speaker crackle when attempting volume adjustments. The head unit shows the correct information and media selections, but no sound output occurs. Interestingly, all other electronic systems function perfectly, which makes me think the issue might be more specific to the audio components rather than a complete head unit failure like in your case. Good tip about checking for software updates, will try that before considering a full unit replacement. Was your repair covered under warranty?

Thanks for those additional details about your Nivus, interesting how our symptoms differ despite similar initial concerns. In my T-Cross case, the warranty had just expired at 95000km when the audio system failed, so I had to cover the full repair cost. Your description of working displays but no audio output, combined with the speaker crackle during volume adjustments, suggests a different issue than what I experienced. This sounds more like an amplifier problem or faulty wiring between the head unit and speakers, rather than the complete head unit failure I dealt with. Since the issue started after a service, it might be worth checking if any work was done near the audio components. In my previous audio troubleshooting experience before the complete failure, loose connections between the amplifier and speakers caused similar symptoms, working display but no sound output. A few quick checks I learned through my repair process: Test each speaker individually through the balance/fader controls, Listen for any car speakers producing even faint sounds, Check the amplifier fuse specifically, Verify all audio input sources fail (not just Bluetooth) Since your unit still displays properly, you might avoid the expensive complete replacement I needed. Consider having the amp and wiring connections inspected first, could save significant repair costs compared to my 725€ head unit replacement.

Thanks for following up regarding the amp and wiring inspection suggestions. I did all the troubleshooting steps you mentioned, including testing individual car speakers through balance controls and checking the amplifier fuse. Every audio source fails consistently, radio, Bluetooth, and USB connections all have the same speaker crackle when adjusting volume control. I contacted the service center since the issue started right after maintenance. They confirmed no work was done near the sound system components, but agreed to inspect the wiring connections free of charge given the timing. The service manager suspects its either a loose connection or amplifier issue based on the symptoms, especially the consistent crackling during volume changes. Hopefully I can avoid the full head unit replacement you experienced. Will update once they complete the inspection and determine if its just faulty wiring or something more serious with the amp. Really appreciate you sharing your repair experience, helped narrow down the likely causes significantly.

Had the exact same issue with my VW T-Cross 2021. Being somewhat familiar with car electronics from previous repairs, I first suspected faulty wiring or a defective head unit, especially since the dashboard controls were completely unresponsive. After basic troubleshooting like checking fuses and attempting system resets, I took it to a workshop. They diagnosed a defective display module causing the entire head unit to malfunction. The static noise and complete audio failure were symptoms of the main control board failure. The repair involved replacing the entire head unit assembly, which cost 725€ including diagnostic work and installation. The workshop also updated the system software as part of the fix. To better assist with your issue, could you share: Whether you get any display at all on the head unit, If other dashboard controls are working normally, Whether this happened suddenly or gradually, If you notice any static noise when trying to adjust volume This information would help determine if you are dealing with the same underlying issue I experienced.
