Thanks for sharing your BMW experience. Sounds very similar to my Lupo issue. Since having it repaired, has everything stayed working properly with your automobile sunroof? The parts list and repair process you described matches what my mechanic suggested, but I wanted to check if you remember the total repair cost. Just trying to get a rough idea before I commit to having the work done. The sunroof control is still completely unresponsive on mine, and I am worried the problem might get worse if I wait too long.

Absolutely, the sunroof system has worked flawlessly since the repair last season. The sunroof operation is now smooth and reliable, with no more initialization errors. The sunroof control responds perfectly to every command, which was a huge relief after dealing with the complete failure. The sunroof calibration was actually the final step in getting everything working again. My total repair came to 850€, plus 75€ for the coding work needed to initialize the new control module with the vehicle systems. Considering the extensive work involved with the sunroof mechanism replacement and rewiring, I feel the cost was justified. Would definitely recommend getting it fixed soon rather than waiting. Water damage to the sunroof wiring can spread to other electrical systems if left unchecked. The repair shop had all the proper diagnostic equipment to test the entire sunroof operation afterward, which gave me confidence in the work. The biggest improvement is having full control of the sunroof again, no more stuck sunblind or error messages. These electrical issues rarely fix themselves and usually get more expensive if delayed.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I finally got my Lupo fixed last week and wanted to share my experience. The sunroof reset and repair went pretty much as described. The mechanic found corroded wiring and a failed control module, just like your BMW case. Total cost came to 780€ for parts and labor. The sunroof operation is now perfect, the sunblind moves smoothly and the sunroof mechanism works exactly as it should. Really glad I got it sorted before winter. The shop I used was much better than my previous experience. They showed me the damaged parts and explained everything clearly. The sunroof control system needed a complete rewiring job, but theyaged to complete everything in just one day. Worth every cent to have a properly working sunroof again. Thanks for helping me avoid getting overcharged, the price was right in line with what you paid for similar work.

As a BMW 118d (2007) owner, I encountered nearly identical sunroof troubleshooting issues last season. The sunroof mechanism completely stopped responding, with the sunblind stuck midway. The root cause turned out to be more than a simple sunroof calibration issue. The diagnostic revealed that the control module had failed, and water damage had corroded the sunroof wiring harness. The car sunroof repair required: Complete removal of headliner, Replacement of the control module, Installation of new wiring harness, Full sunroof mechanism recalibration, Testing of all sunroof positions This was classified as a serious electrical repair requiring specialized equipment. The job took 2 full days at the workshop. Worth noting that these symptoms almost always indicate an electrical fault rather than mechanical failure in these vehicle sunroof systems. The sunroof mechanism now works perfectly after the repair. Would strongly recommend having this checked by a certified shop with proper diagnostic tools, as DIY fixes often lead to more expensive repairs later.
