Thanks for sharing your experience with the VW Polo sun blind repair. Mine is also showing those exact symptoms with the guide rails and motor. Getting it fixed soon to protect the car interior from damage. Did you remember roughly how much the repair cost in total? And has the UV protection system worked properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues popping up? Mine seems to be getting worse by the day and Im trying to budget for the repair realistically.

Since getting my VW Polo sun blind fixed by the mechanic last month, the entire sun protection system has worked perfectly. The total repair cost came to 330€, which covered the motor replacement and guide rail adjustment. The sunshade repair was definitely worth the investment as it now extends and retracts smoothly without any error codes. The interior accessory functions exactly as it should, providing reliable sun protection for the cabin. The mechanic explained that addressing the issue promptly helped prevent additional damage to the sun visor mechanism and surrounding components. Based on the symptoms you described, your repair costs should be in a similar range if the issue is comparable to what I experienced. Getting it fixed sooner rather than later is wise to avoid more extensive damage to the sun blind system.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I finally got my Lupo sun blind fixed yesterday and wanted to share an update. The repair was similar but actually cheaper than expected at 280€. The mechanic found worn gears in the motor unit and slightly damaged guide rails, just as described. The process took about 4 hours total. They had to remove the headliner to access the sun protection system, replaced the motor assembly, and straightened the bent guide rails. The UV protection now works perfectly, the sun blind extends and retracts smoothly with no error codes. What a relief to have this fixed properly. The interior accessory is working like new again and the repair shop did a great job explaining everything. Much better experience than my previous mechanic visits.

Had a similar issue with my 2006 VW Polo TDI. The electric sun blind motor started showing the same symptoms, getting stuck and throwing error codes. The sunshade would only move partially before stopping completely. The repair required removing the headliner to access the sun blind mechanism. The motor assembly needed replacement due to worn internal gears. Additionally, the technician found that the guide rails were slightly bent, causing extra resistance on the sunshade movement. This was a significant repair that took several hours to complete. The issue can get worse if left unattended, potentially damaging the guide rails further or causing the sun visor fabric to tear. The window visor system in these VW models from that era commonly develops these problems due to frequent use and age-related wear. My recommendation is to have it checked soon. The repair process involves: Complete diagnostic scan, Headliner removal, Motor assembly replacement, Guide rail inspection and possible straightening, System recalibration The good news is that once properly fixed, the sun protection system should work reliably for many years with normal use.
