VW Lupo Power Window System Total Failure Fix Guide

Just had my last service done at 147585km and I can confirm its all windows affected, not just one. When pressing any window switch, theres absolutely no response, no clicking, no motor sound, nothing. It happened suddenly during a cold morning last week. The switch suggestion is really interesting since I was convinced the regulator motor was the problem. No other electrical issues noticed, everything else works perfectly including central locking and mirrors. Has your switch fix held up well? A 200€ repair would be much better than replacing all window regulators.

Thanks for those details. Yes, my switch replacement has been rock solid for over 2 years now, not a single window issue since the repair. The symptoms you describe, all windows failing simultaneously with no response, match my experience exactly. When the window regulator fails, it typically affects just one window and you usually hear some grinding or clicking. A completely silent response across all windows strongly points to a switch or control module issue. The main power window switch contains the control module for all window operations. When it fails, especially in cold weather, it can cause a total system shutdown. The lack of any other electrical problems also supports this diagnosis, as window regulators rarely fail all at once. Based on the error codes and these symptoms, Id bet youre dealing with the same switch assembly problem. The window control module inside the switch can be sensitive to temperature changes, which explains the cold morning failure. The 200€ repair cost included programming the new switch unit to work with the cars computer. Make sure any replacement parts are genuine VW, aftermarket switches often dont last as long and can cause compatibility issues with the window motor systems.

The symptoms you mentioned sound promising, if all windows have stopped with zero response, this seems more likely to be a central switch issue rather than multiple window regulators failing simultaneously. Really helpful to know about the cold weather connection too, since that matches exactly when my problem started. The cost of 200€ for the complete fix including programming sounds reasonable compared to replacing multiple window regulators. And the fact that your repair has lasted over 2 years without issues is encouraging. Will get the car booked in and specifically ask them to check the main power window switch and control module before jumping to conclusions about the regulators. Having the door panel inspected properly makes more sense as a first diagnostic step. Thanks for sharing your experience, saved me from potentially replacing parts unnecessarily. Will update once I get it checked out in case anyone else runs into similar issues with their power windows completely dying.

As someone with some hands-on experience with VW electrical issues, I had a similar problem with my 2004 VW Polo, pretty much the same window system as your Lupo. My window control system failed completely one day. After scanning, the error codes pointed to the window mechanism, but it turned out the window regulator wasnt the culprit. The issue was actually the main power window switch in the door panel. I took it to a workshop and they tested the electrical connections. The switch was sending incorrect signals, causing the window motor to stay inactive. The total repair cost was 200€, which included diagnosis and replacing the faulty switch assembly. Could you share some additional details about your issue: Does this affect all windows or just one? Can you hear any clicking sound when pressing the switches? Did the problem start gradually or happen suddenly? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? This would help determine if youre dealing with a similar switch problem or if its actually the window regulator. These window mechanisms can be tricky to diagnose without proper testing equipment.
