Thanks for the detailed info on your VW Fox seat harness repair. The symptoms match my Lupo exactly. Could you share roughly what you paid for the whole fix? Also curious if youve had any other electrical gremlins with the seat adjustment system since the repair? Been getting quotes that seem all over the place, so trying to figure out what would be reasonable. Also, when they tested the seat motor itself, was it still good or did that need replacing too? Just want to know what parts to expect on the bill besides the wiring.

After getting it properly diagnosed at my trusted shop, the passenger electric seat issue turned out to be much simpler than expected. The main problem was actually a heavily discharged battery that was failing to provide enough power to the seat adjustment system. The total repair came to 290€, which included: Battery testing and replacement, Full electrical system diagnostic, Seat wiring inspection Since fixing the battery, the electric seat adjustment has worked perfectly with no other electrical problems. The seat motor tested fine and didnt need replacement. All the seat controls now respond normally and the check engine light cleared completely. This was much better than the initial quotes I got for complete seat wiring replacement. Sometimes automotive seat electrical issues can be traced back to basic power supply problems rather than complex harness failures. The seat control module and motor were both functioning correctly once proper power was restored. Definitely worth having a thorough diagnostic done before agreeing to major seat wiring repairs, as simpler solutions might solve the problem.

After going through several repair shops, I finally found one that properly diagnosed my Lupo power seat issue. The passenger seat problem turned out to be a burnt-out seat motor and damaged seat switch, not the complete wiring disaster I feared. Total repair costs came to 380€: New seat motor, Replacement seat switch, Labor for installation, System diagnostic The mechanic showed me the old motor which had clearly seized up. The power seats now work smoothly and the check engine light is gone. No electrical issues since the repair was done three months ago. What really helped was finding a shop specializing in automotive electrical systems. They tested everything systematically instead of jumping to replace the entire wiring harness like other places suggested. The electric seat controls respond perfectly now, and the passenger seat adjusts just like when the car was new. Going to stick with this shop for future repairs since they saved me from an unnecessary complete rewiring job that others were pushing for.

The seat wiring issues in VW models from that era are quite common. Had a similar problem with my 2008 VW Fox where the electric seat adjustment system failed completely on the passenger side. The diagnostic revealed a combination of issues: Corroded seat switch connections under the seat, Damaged wire harness where it flexes near the seat base, Failed seat control module The repair involved: Complete removal of the passenger seat, Replacement of the main seat wiring harness, Installation of a new seat adjustment switch panel, Reprogramming of the seat control module It was a serious repair requiring specialized diagnostic equipment and about 4 hours of labor. The seat wiring had to be completely replaced as individual wire repairs are not reliable for seat adjustment systems. The fix has lasted 3 years now with no recurring issues. The check engine light cleared after the repair and never came back. These electrical problems with car seats typically dont fix themselves and worsen over time if left unaddressed. Most important is finding a shop with experience in automotive electrical systems, specifically seat control modules and wiring harnesses.
