Thanks for sharing your experience with the transmission issues. My case sounds exactly like what you described with the shift lock problems. After reading this, I took my Golf to a certified VW shop. They confirmed the faulty gear linkage and transmission sensor issues. Did you remember how much the total repair ended up costing? And has your transmission been working properly since the fix? My service advisor mentioned potential related problems with the automatic transmission control module that might need attention in the future, so Im curious if you encountered any other issues after the initial repair.

Had my Golf back for several months now and the transmission repair solved all the problems completely. The gear shifter works smoothly, and there are no more issues with finding neutral position or any other gears. The total cost came to 1000€ for fixing the affected control unit that was causing the transmission issues. While it wasnt cheap, having a properly functioning transmission system is worth the investment. The automatic transmission parking position problem hasnt returned, and everything works as it should. Good to hear you went to a certified shop for diagnosis. Since they identified similar gear linkage problems, you should definitely get it fixed soon. Leaving transmission issues unaddressed could lead to more expensive repairs down the line. Regarding future problems, havent experienced any additional transmission-related issues since the repair. The control module they installed has been reliable, and all gear positions engage correctly now. Regular maintenance should help prevent any new problems from developing.

Thanks for the helpful advice. Just wanted to update on my Golf situation. Took it to a certified VW workshop last week for the transmission repair after getting your feedback. The mechanic found exactly what was suspected, a bad shift lock solenoid and some transmission sensor problems. The total repair came to 1200€, which included replacing the faulty parts and reprogramming the transmission control module. They also discovered and fixed a worn gear linkage that was contributing to the loose shifter feel. Car runs perfectly now. The gear shifter is firm again, neutral position engages smoothly, and no more check engine light. The transmission shifts cleanly through all gears. Such a relief to have it working properly again. For anyone facing similar symptoms, definitely get it checked by a qualified shop that knows hybrid systems. Waiting would have likely caused more extensive transmission issues and higher repair costs later on.

As a VW e-Golf 2019 owner, I encountered nearly identical transmission issues last season. The main symptoms matched perfectly, loose gear shifter, problematic neutral position, and transmission not engaging properly. The diagnosis revealed a faulty shift lock solenoid and a damaged control module affecting the transmission management system. This combination of problems caused the gear shifter to become increasingly unreliable and eventually triggered multiple error codes. The repair required replacing both the shift lock mechanism and reprogramming the transmission control unit. This was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as it could potentially lead to complete transmission failure if left unaddressed. In these cases, the transmission repair should be handled by a specialist familiar with VW hybrid systems. The shift lock mechanism is integrated with several safety features, and proper diagnostic equipment is essential for accurate troubleshooting. The gear shifter problems combined with error codes typically indicate a system-wide issue rather than just mechanical wear. When the neutral position feels off, its often connected to the control unit malfunction rather than the physical transmission components. Given your mileage and symptoms, this sounds very similar to what I experienced. Would strongly suggest getting a second opinion from a certified VW technician who specializes in hybrid transmissions.
